Fairfax Inova - Pros/Cons need some references

Hubbie and I live in Centreville and plan on starting a family soon for the first time.  I'm seeking some advice on where I should seek my OB/GYN.  I was thinking about starting to go to Fair Oaks Inova since it is right down the street.

If you used Inova or are currently using Fair Oaks Inova can you provide me some feedback?  Any suggestions on docs?

Thanks for the advice ladies!  Have a Happy New Year!

  • No idea since I have Kaiser, but do you mean Inova Fair Oaks (in Fairfax)? That is closer to Centreville than Inova Fairfax which is actually has a Falls Church address.

  • You might try the DC Bump board, too, but I can say that I had a great experience delivering at Inova Fairfax.  All of the hospital personnel we encountered (L&D nurses, postpartum nurses, anesthesiologist, lactation consultants, etc.) were great, and the hospital has one of the top NICUs in the area, which is one of those things you probably won't need but want to have the best if you need it.  (Oh, and according to my husband, the sushi in the cafeteria is pretty good.)

To me, the only downside of Inova Fairfax is that not all of their postpartum rooms are private.  They charge $100 per night extra for a private room, and the extra charge isn't usually covered by insurance.  We paid the extra money for the private room and thought the cost was absolutely worth the money, but some of the hospitals around here only have private rooms, which means no extra cost and no chance of sharing a room.

Honestly, though, for me, what mattered was that I have an Ob/Gyn that I really feel comfortable with.  She happens to deliver at Inova Fairfax, so that's where I delivered.  If she'd had privileges at another hospital instead, I probably would have stayed with her anyway.

  • I delivered DS at Fairfax and will deliver the next one  there too.  My OB/GYN is off of Rte. 50 just around the corner from the hospital.  I love my OB/GYN practice and found Fairfax Hospital a great place to deliver at.  Yes, you do have to pay the additional $100/night for a private room,  but it was well worth the cost to have DH stay the night with DS and me.

I go to the same practice as DNA and I delivered at Fairfax and I live in Loudoun. I plan to do the same thing for #2, because I was very happy with my experiences with the OBs and the hospital.

I also had a private room at INOVA Fairfax and was charged the extra $100/night, but my insurance called the hospital & had them remove the charges, because apparently the private rooms would have been my only option on the day I delivered.

If you are interested, the OBGYN practice we are referring to is Anderson Maanavi Muasher Yoon & Kinder (all-woman practice) 703-560-1611.
