update on W

I came on to see if there were any SBJ updates, but can give one of my own.

We took W to an urgent care/after hours centre this morning because he'd had a rough night, and still had a temp (we took it before tylenol this morning). We spent 3 hours there, had him pricked, prodded and x0-rayed, were misdiagnosed with pneumonia (which had me in a panic - apparently they couldn't read a toddler's xray!?), and sent to a specialist Peds ER.

After a quick lunch stop, we spent 6 hours at the ER, with W on an IV drip with saline and then glucose solution, to rehydrate him. Seeing my baby with an IV in his arm was so hard, I can only imagine how hard a time Liz is having. Luckily, by 5pm he was finally a bit brighter, and we were discharged. All the scary tests came back negative thankfully. He's basically got a nasty virus, ear infection, and because he was refusing to eat or drink, was scarily dehydrated.

But we're home now, MUCH poorer. (PLEASE directline, be kind to us!) And W is just asleep. I'm off to alternate between chocolate and beer!

Oh, and in honour of the words post, he said his first 2 word sentence today: 'ma ba' (more bunnies - aka bunny grahams).?

  • This almost EXACT same thing just happened to a good friend of mine who lives in Oxfordshire (I met her through NCT).  He actually got a bit worse and spiked a high fever which caused him to have a fever seizure...the final diagnosis?  NASTY virus.

This is the 4th or 5th "Un-named Nasty Virus" case I've heard of going around England...quite odd, isn't it?

My heart (and prayers) are going out to little SBJ.

  • Oh no, so glad that he is doing better.

  • Thanks everyone for the good thoughts. He's definitely still really fussy with foods (how do i have the only toddler in the world who doesn't like juice or popsicles???), but he's brighter, wanting to play, and talking more again.
