Re: KellDell

  • sure thang!

Disney was very eventful. Friday morning I got a call from the sitter that little man had a fever. I immediately took him to the pedi since I knew we would be flying. He had a dreaded ear infection. As of 7 PM we were not going, didn't want to risk causing him pain on the flight plus being sick while so far from home. Doc assured us he will be okay in a day or two once we got antibiotics with him. After calling airlines and trying to possibly just delay our flight a day or two, it would cost too much. So we decided to just risk it and go.

JD was pretty miserable from Sat-Mon but then was okay. I then came down with something and was bed ridden Mon-Tues with 103 fever. Turns out I also had an ear infection- who beyond the age of three gets those?- and I also got what later turned into bronchitis and almost pneumonia.

so....  the trip had many tweaks and not all was enjoyed 100% but we made the best of it.

    Quick recap/review:

  • oh that is rough. i cant imagine being that sick while being so far away from home and in a hotel nonetheless. glad you guys got to enjoy some of it anyway!

  • First, the Beach Club was awesome! I loved the location. We were within walking distance of the Boardwalk, Yacht Club and most importantly Epcot.

Weather was crazy, when we got there, we froze since we were without our heavy winter gear, it was raining and 45 degrees. It then fluctuated between 50-85 the rest of the week, like I said crazy. Only one day of rain and no snow, so I guess we got lucky ;)

Dinner show at the Polynesian- cute little show, lots of good food served family style, seen some hula dancers and some nice shirtless eye candy that swallowed fire.

Sunday we did Animal Kingdom. I rode Mt Everst, it was awesome. Lunch at the Rainforest was okay, yummy brownie volcano, awesome nachos, cool effects. Not on dining plan though which we knew ahead of time.

We did the Very Merry Christmas Party that night. It turned into a disaster later that night due to a sick baby and mommy but it was as fun as it could be. Honestly, I was not impressed for what we paid. The park was mobbed and lines were longer that night than the whole week. But we loved the snow on Main St, iced castle, hot cocoa, etc

Monday I stayed in bed, the rest of the fam did MGM Studios. I later joined them for dinner at Prime Time Cafe. Killer meatloaf and pot roast from what I could taste.

Tuesday was also spent in bed while the fam did the Magic Kingdom. I finally started feeling better by dinner. We ended up by default at Flying Fish Cafe on the Boardwalk. EXCELLENT. its a signature dining restaurant, all fresh fish, i iwhs I could remember what I had but I am trying to be quick. David got a really cool artist dessert- pallette whit a white chocolate puzzle and chocolate paint.

Wednesday was a gorgeous day, 85 degrees and I got a drop of sun burn. We did Epcot in the morning, Soaring is really cool. Then hung by the pool the afternoon. Beach Club's pool has real sand on the bottom and an awesome water slide according to my dad and David. Dinner was at Chef Mickey's. Solid meal, character dining.

Thursday we did my birthday princess breakfast. it was wonderful! We met Cinderella then were escorted to our seats upstairs of the palace. It was really neat being inside. Excellent meal with fruit and fancy stuff. We then had dinner at ESPN Zone which is now included on the dining plan. Typical bar food. The ESPN college awards were being taped so we got to see and stalk a few college players including Tim Tebow which thrilled BIL and DH.

Friday I went back to MGM since I didn't get to the first time. We got 14 fast passes from a very nice employee on our way out. So we ran back in and did the Rocking Roller Coaster twice, I gave the rest to a cute family at the end of the line. Also seen Fantasmic but I forget which night.

We had dinner in Italy, yummy and good wine selection. obviously. Never got to drink around the world due to illness and a rain out the night we planned it. But I did have a grande manier slushy and I am in love!

I am sure I am leaving things out but I am rushing...

I will post pics tomorrow, got to run!

    so.freakin.cool.

sounds like even with all the bumps in the road it was a good experience. hopefully next time will be illness free!

  • Sorry you & JD were so sick. It sounds like you had a good time though!

DH & I just discussed Disney and are officially going in October!!! I'm kind of freaking out that we picked October since it is going to be the busiest month of the year for me (Andrew's 9th b-day, Bella's 1st B-Day 7 Andrew's Communion -same weekend) then Disney from October 27th - November 3rd! Squeeeeeee!!!!!

  • Glad you had a good time.  Sucks that you were sick though.
  • I wanted to mention, we did the premium dining plan- we got the free dining special and just paid the difference to upgrade. It gives you three meals per day plus two snacks. At first I thought it was going to be way too much food but we ended up using all the meals with maybe two left over.  We did a few character dinings when we normally only do one since it takes up two table side meals. Plus we ate at some of the nicer signature restaurants that take up two meals. And with JD since he is under 2 he is not invluded in the dining plan, normally he would just eat off our plate. Some places we ordered him actual meals so he could have something different.

And I wanted to say that Disney does Christmas just right. All the decor, music, events are done just enough and with class, not over the top tacky. Loved being there this time of year.

Next time we hope to go back for Halloween and the Food/Wine festival

When we went last year, we just got the dining plan right under the one you got ... the Deluxe Dining plan (1 Table Service meal, 1 quick service meal, 2 snacks a day and the mug) and we had a TON of meals and snacks left over somehow. I don't know that I'd do the dining plan again. Glad you had a great time!

I was watching some show on I think HGTV and it was a behind the scenes thing how they get ready for Christmas in Disney, there was one attraction, something Hollywood, that had over 5 million lights.  It was insane, but really cool.

  • I cannot imagine having meals left over on the dining plan!  Cannot!  I plan that thing our hard core.

I totally want to do the free dining/pay for the upgrade the next time.

  • Are the Osbourne Dancing Lights 3-D?  It looks like people were wearing glasses.   All very cool, especially the castle.

Glad you had a good time despite being sick.

  • No, not 3d, at least I dont think it was. Not sure why they were wearing those. hmmmm now Im wondering if I missed something, haha

It was so awesome, i have 30 pics just from that and I think DH videoed it on his phone too, really cool. they dance to the music

We had about 4 quick service meals left over at the end and about 3 days worth of snacks. So on our last day we were stuffing crap into our carry-ons. I had all the table service meals planned out and reserved becase you have to. It was the quick service ones that we mainly had left over. We had a ton of snack options because the people at our resort (Wilderness Lodge) didn't really pay attention and didn't really care how many snacks you took. There was also 3 of us and our son at the time wasn't a breakfast eater so that alone was 12 days of a 'snack' that he didn't use/eat. Toward the end we were doubling up with it all.
