Do you believe in ghosts or had a paranormal experience?

In the spirit of Halloweekend (I combined words! YAAAAY!), have you ever had a ghostly experience or believe in ghosts or the supernatural?

They were talking about this on the radio a few weeks ago and it was pretty interesting... I was surprised that so many people called in.

I have had no such experiences... just a fear of the basement in the house I grew up in.

Re: Do you believe in ghosts or had a paranormal experience?

  • yeppers.  bestie's house in hs was totally haunted.  noises, moving furniture, things turning on and off, radio stations changing whole nine.  temp in the rooms changing abruptly.

i have also had "feelings" like something was in a room with me.  i am a believer in ghosts, and that jen love hewitt can talk to them.

  • Well you know, Jennifer Love Hewitt's bewbs act like reception satellites for the dead. True story.

That is crazy... I think I don't believe it because I've never seen anything like that, but I would crap my pants if I ever did.

  • I have no personal experiences.

But I do believe in ghosts. Especially in the cases of places that had bad things happen, like Gettysburg for example.

It makes sense to me that bad energy could remain and that is someone dies in pain or terror they may not be able to rest peacefully.

I watch Paranormal State all the time, love that show.

  • first time i was a bit ummmmm toasty and i seriously started crying. i hated sleeping over there. it wasn't mean, just attention craving.

  • i most certainly do believe in ghosts or spirits or souls and communication.  i've had a few things go down which involve my dad, or another dead loved one.  they were tooooo spooky.
     Hi Francey!
  • Yes.  I have plenty of these.

I was 13-14 and I went to use the bathroom.  I heard a squeaking upstairs, like someone was on my brother's bed but we were all downstairs.  I got my brother to make sure I wasn't crazy and then we got my mom.  We all heard it.  My dad went upstairs, and nothing.

My mom later told us that when she was little she was sharing a bed with her grandma one night and the whole thing broke; she thinks it was her saying goodbye.

My mom's friend has a picture of her dad on a plate.  There is fading in the shape of a heart right over his heart.  He died of a heart attack.

My grandpa died 1.5 years ago.  Two weeks after he died I got a call asking for someone named Gene - his name was Gene.

I have a couple more if people are interested.

  • No personal experience, but yes, I believe in ghosts/spirits/whatever you want to call them. However, I believe that 90% of the stories out there and people who claim to be able to see/communicate with the dead are untrue.

  • Does anyone think that some people are more likely than others to experience this stuff? Maybe I'm just not sensitive enough.

    Yes, I believe that.

I have no experiences and I tell everyone that once they pass on, do not feel the need to come and let me know they are ok and that I'll just know they are fine.

pfief, perfect time to tell more stories!

  • Mostly they happen when someone passes away, I heard these two from my mom:

My dad and brother (he was 2) were sitting in the livingroom and my dad heard someone say "hi".  He thought it sounded like my aunt (who was killed in a car accident a month before).  My brother then said "who was that" so my dad knew something was said.

My mom was in the basement doing laundry and her dad just passed away, she felt like someone was watching her so she turned around and there was a flannel shirt floating behind her.  Crazy thing, she wasn't scared, she knew it was her dad (he always wore flannel).  She did have the house blessed after this one though.

Last: I was in my house in Indy and was very sick.  I got up at 3am, went to the kitchen and saw the garage door open to the house and the light in the garage come on. I didn't think paranormal at the time, rather robber/killer, so I called 911; no one was in there.  I really think that house was haunted or I had a stalker.

Yes I think that is true.

Paranormal State is a show on A&E, is you have on demand u can watch back episodes.

It is a group of Penn State students who investigate real life haunting, disturbances etc..

    Jpif -I'm totally interested

    Yes, absolutely.

I had a teacher in middle school who would tell stories about her house on the school day of Halloween - her home is almost 200 years old and has been on tv and stuff b/c of the paranormal activity.

My BFF's grandmother was a witch and my BFF has "feelings" sometimes that tend to come true.  Example - She went to a benefit one night when she was really sick b/c she thought she'd win something in the raffle and she won the top prize - full expenses paid trip to Paris.

I've never had anything really happen personally.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • i have typed this before, but here is a shortened version: i went to see a psychic and I "talked to" my dad all that day.  when i got there the psychic was able to give me his first name and also tell me that he was there watching me at a sporting event that day.  there is no way , none, at all, that this woman would have known this.
     Hi Francey!
  • I do believe in spirits, ghosts, etc.  Never "felt" anything of the sort though.

I think this was more coincidental, but it still is a little freakish:  My mom-mom died right before my sister made her first communion.  My sister was really sad and mopey the whole day because of this.  Soon after, my mom developed a roll of photos from the day/party (this was long before the age of digital cameras).  It was a double-exposed roll of film.  Every photo from my sister's communion day had an image of my mom-mom in the background.  Every time I see the photos I get chills.

  • I have never had any experiences, I get freaked out when talking about it, but not to the point where I am like stop talking, I love hearing stories.

It is said that the place where I worked/got married is haunted.  When working, no one would want to go to the basement for supplies, we would either go in twos or send one of the boys down.

  • This thread it awesome and getting me through the workday.  Keep 'em coming!

I can only think of one time that something like this remotely happened to me and it was on the tour of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London.  It's supposed to be one of the world's most haunted theaters, so they take you on a tour and tell you all sorts of ghost stories.  They eventually lead you to a tunnel and tell you a story and say that you may feel a presence or the smell of lavender (can't remember how it relates to the story.. anyway).  I never smelled the lavender, which I thought might be planted anyway, but I did have the cool breeze on my neck and the hairs stood straight up.  I stopped dead in my tracks and the breeze circled me and then I warmed right up.  I remember looking around for some sort of fan, but nothing.  It was the eeriest experience I ever had.

  • I actually just posted this story on the 12-24 board on the bump..but thought I would share here too....

I've had too many experiences happen that are unexplainable.  I used to be a skeptic, but I've had too much proof.  I have been able to communicate w/ my grandfather, who passed 22 years ago, through a K2 meter, and he is remaining behind to wait for my grandma.

Also, when I worked at an ice rink some figure skating students were messing about with a Ouija board. They got so freaked out they ran out of the lunchroom. They were trying to contact Wally, who had broken his neck when he fell down the stairs at the rink.  Well..later on when I was driving home it was really hot outside that day (about 94 or 95 degrees out) and I had my window down and I felt something ice cold grab my shoulder. Later, when I was at home I was putting on my mascara in my bathroom and the faucet turned on by itself.  I screamed at the top of my lungs and booked it out of there.  My dad, who is a plumber, said that there was no way that faucet could have turned on by itself b/c it was not one of those faucets that turns on easily.  My mom told me to take Wally back to the rink with me later on when I was going back to the rink for a figure skating lesson.... he never came back to my house again! :o)

Also, I had an uncle who passed away under suspicious circumstances.  The police said when they found him he had either committed suicide or was murdered.  They found him in a river.  For a few weeks after he had passed there were pictures knocked down in our house and at my grandparents house.  There was also a very, wet spot on my parent's bed in the shape of what looked like a human had sat down on the bed.  After a few weeks everything calmed down and they haven't been visited by him since.

Also, I was just on a real ghost hunt like you see on Ghost Hunters. It was at this place called Sun Inn in Bethlehem.  It dates back to 1759 and has at least 4 or 5 ghosts there. While I was there I got some of spikes on my K2 meter which indicated an energy present.  I have only gone through about 1/3 of the recordings I did, and have found 2 evps so far.  One is just of a really weird grunt, and the other is a woman speaking German (Bethlehem was a big enclave of Moravian people who spoke German).   I'm excited to see what else I can find on the tape.

I also have a picture of a ghost that was taken in my apartment when I lived in Knoxville, TN.  He used to turn on and off lights and would turn on UNPLUGGED stereos. Here is the pic below:

    image
  • Where is the ghost in that picture? I don't see it.

I don't believe in ghosts. I am more inclined to believe in demons.

  • no. because accounts are based on testimonial evidence and not science experiments. where is the proof? where are the published scientific papers on this? there are none. why? if they existed, dont you think there would be recorded accounts in scientific journals?

once there is evidence to the contrary i'll believe, until then, its bunk, hooey, superstition, magical thinking and frankly, nonsense.

    Science!

  • Here's my little story.  We moved into our house when I was 3.  I was apparently very interested in bathroom and before long started telling my parents that a man used to sit on the tub and tell me stories.  They thought I had an imaginary friend.  They never put 2 and 2 together until weird things started happening in the house.  Doors would slam, you would open a door and be hit with a burst of pipe smell (no one smoked in my house) you'd hear footsteps, one night my dog freaked out and was barking like a maniac and chewed the wall up.  Our neighbor told us that the guy who lived there before dies ni the house and used to sit in a chair all the time where the dog chewed the wall up.  My mom called the son who was still in the neighborhood and asked him to come over.  She told him what was going on and she asked me to describe to man who tells me stories in the bathroom and the son said I described his father.  I have ABSOLUTELY no recollection of this AT ALL and wouldn't have even known about if my mom didn't tell me later on when I was a teenager.  All I know is that we had a priest bless the house and he didn't make himself known as much.  Weird.  Oh and if it didn't happen to me I totally would not believe this story.
