Halloween Costume Help

I am planning on going as the quarterback of the Buffalo Bills. I have his jersey, and he sucks now, so I might as get some more use out of it while I can. I'm also planning on wearing a bandage wrapped around my head because he's currently not playing because of a concussion (I know, it's wrong. But whatever!).

Anyway, I need to complete my football outfit. I'm thinking of wearing my yoga pants rolled up to the knees, and wanted to get some knee socks, the ones that you can pull WAY up past your knees. Since I've never purchased these before, I have no idea where to get them. Can I find them at Target or Walmart, or do I have to go to a sports store? Any idea?

I figured I'd paint the black under my eyes and carry around a football. Any other ideas to enhance the costume?

Also, my husband has no idea what to be... anyone have any cheap/easy ideas that they're using/have used in the past?

I hate Halloween parties because of this stuff!

Re: Halloween Costume Help

  • Anyone have any ideas about how I can rig a "ring of stars" up above my head?

    Like this guy?  :)

  • For the stars I'm thinking a wire coat hanger with like stars cut out of styrofoam, painted and the hanger stuck thru them. Make any sense? lol

  • Hmmm. But how do I attach the hanger to my head?

Floral wire might actually work well for attaching the stars to each other in a ring, but i'm just not sure how to get it to stand above my head!

  • If it's the lighter weight floral wire, maybe you could stick it into your ponytail?

    Or a derivative of this...

Your little angel needs a halo and there are several different ways to make them. One way is to simply twist together tinsel pipe cleaners of silver or gold and lay the halo directly on the head. You can also make a circle of pipe cleaners with a stem that allows the halo to be raised above the head. The stem is attached with a clip or bobby pins then hidden with some hair.

  • or le headband...

get some tinsel and drainpipe cleaner things and a headband attach one end of the cleaner to the headband and then make the other end into a sort of halo shape wrap the tinsel around the shape and voila a halo

  • I will have to experiment with that. Thanks!
  • Yeh maybe you can find a headband close to your hair color, or clear and use the floral wire and lightweight stars to float. GL!!!

  • I've always gotten my socks like that at sports store....but they might have them at Target.

Could your DH go as D_ick (Nest would probably censor it hah) Jauron? He could wear a Bills polo or something like that and carry a clipboard. Or a ref maybe? You could probably get the ref shirt at a sports store, and a whistle.

  • I was gonna say bobby pins for the stars.

You can get the socks at a sports store... D_ick's, Sports Authority... whatever you have.

For your DH- a cheerleader? Smile I dunno. I hate dressing up, so I don't.

Diick Jauron would actually be hilarious. I'm pretty sure H actually has a Bills polo, but if not, he does have a cropped turtle shirt with "Bills" on it. Hmmm. I'll have to propose the idea when he gets home. I feel like he would need a headset to pull it off, though. And he'd have to practice his best "Frankenstein" face, as Jauron only has one facial expression. (And we hate him.)

  • Are the sport socks going to cost me? Or can they be had for like $5? (I hate spending money on stuff for Halloween that I'm never going to wear again!)

And Danielle--the headband idea sounds like the best method yet. I should be able to find a cheapy plastic one at Target. Thanks!

  • I am late to this, but they have above the knee socks at Target, Walmart, etc. as well.  I am not sure if they have sports (specifically) socks, but they definitely have above the knee socks.  Those are my favorite kind and I have tons from there.  :)

And I love the Jauron idea for your dh.  And I love the stars as a headband kind of thing.  Take pics!!

  • H liked the Jauron idea, so we're going with that.

I took a trip to Target earlier and was able to find a 3-pack of cute Christmas knee-high socks for like $5. One of the pairs is solid red, woohoo! Plus I get two bonus pairs for Christmastime.

Since the entire retail world insists it is Christmas season already, Target actually had that wired garland made up of silver stars. I grabbed that and a cheap headband to make the "seeing stars" ring for above my head. :) I haven't put it together yet, but I think it'll work well. A cheap pair of stretchy navy pajama pants + an ace bandage for around my head complete my costume.

For H, I got him a clipboard, but he doesn't really need anything else. He's going to wear khakis and his mock turtleneck Bills shirt, a Bills baseball hat, and wear this headset thingy he has from some game he used to play on PS2. We're going to print out a bunch of fake plays for him to carry around on the clipboard, and we should both be all set!

Thanks for all of the help! :)

  • Pictures, please!
