IDEAS REGARDING EVENT PLANNING BUSINESS PLEASE!!!

HELLO BOARD,

ME AND MY BEST FRIEND ARE IN THE PROGRESS OF BECOMING EVENT PLANNERS IN TAMPA, FL. WE WANT TO DO BIRTHDAY PARTIES FOR ADULTS AND KIDS, WEDDINGS, ETC...WE WANTED TO SEE WHAT THE PUBLIC DEMAND FOR THIS IS AND THINGS THE PUBLIC IS LOOKING FOR. PLS GIVE US ANY THOUGHTS YOU MAY HAVE. THANKS SO MUCH.

Re: IDEAS REGARDING EVENT PLANNING BUSINESS PLEASE!!!

  • My suggestion would be to buy/check out from the library a bunch of books about event planning/starting a business. Look at the websites of planners in your area, to get an idea of how they do things. ?For me, I would be more inclined to hire a caterer before I hired a party planner, because I think the planning aspects are fun--the cooking can be more of a pain.
  • First, I think that you are better off being in a large metropolitian area.  I agree with all of the suggestions that the pp said.  The only other thing is if you could contact a current party planner - perhaps work for them so you can actually see if you like the business or not.  I think alot of times the idea is appealing but not the actual work.

GL!  Let us know how it turns out for you.

  • Well, you're already in the party spirit with the all caps...

How many other companies do you see that is similar? Have you checked out the local Nestie board? They'd be able to tell you if thet would be something thwy'd like to see.

  • Do some research on the event business.  Look into certificate programs.  Make sure you have insurance.
  • I work in nonprofit now but in college I worked for a Destination Management Company. They were really successful partly because they were the "preferred" DMC of a major hotel in the city. Try and build relationships with venues.
  • Check out www.gigglesandgrins.com because a friend ofmine is looking at buying a "party in a box" from them.  They do everything for the hostess including personalized invitations, gift bags, plan out the menu, games, etc.  I think it's crazy expensive and she could do it herself but some people may really find benefit in paying for this because every detail has already been thought out for them.

I could see this being big for kids parties and you could do any type theme.  As for adults maybe if you geared it towards landmark birthday's like 21 or turning 40.

Having good connections with caterers I could see being big too.  Oh, and what about planning bridal showers, baby showers?  There's so much you could do with this type of service.

    Good Luck,
