Condom or no condom?

Okay so on the previous post one of the ladies that responded said to use a condom the first time. Well me and my FI are waiting til our wedding night to do it, but by then I will have been on BC for like 8 months, so it will have been in my system for a while. My question is, since it will be our first time, should we use a condom anyway, even though I'm on BC?

Re: Condom or no condom?

  • You were smart and got on birth control long before your wedding night, so you don't have to worry about being protected.  As long as you're taking it corrrectly, you're about 99% protected.

But, for a guy's first time he's going to be very excited and, shall we say, a little quick on the draw.  Condoms are a good way to desensitize the guy so he can go a little longer.  That makes for a better time for both of you!

    Have fun and good luck!

  • Honestly, I would say you don't need it.  It's just another thing to get in the way.  You are on BCP and have been for a while, I would said you're covered.  If it is the first time for both of you, you will probably be nervous.  If he's not used to putting on condoms it's just another thing for him to worry about...

In the past I've used both but DH and I have only used BCP and we've been fine for years.  It sis so much better with out condoms.  Either way i would say use some lube!!!

That is what I was thinking too, and why we agreed to not use one on our first time. But when I read the previous post, I started wondering if it would be better. Thank you for your help!

  • I say go without a condom. You don't need it since you've been on the BC for a while, and it will probably be a bit more comfortable for you if he's au natural...
  • Since you've been on BC for a while, you don't need to use one.  Like MyValentine said though, it will help him last longer.
  • Condoms are not comfortable, my H had to take his off on our first time. Use lube either way.
  • I would say without one as well. As long as you have been taking your BC regularly. I know a condom does desensitize both females and males alike. And they are not comfortable at all like jofrog_18 said.  With my personal experience desensitizing the male with a condom did not matter. (which it generally does) (We did it without a condom.)Your FI will either be totally excited and be quick or he will be like my hubby was the first time and be soo nervous that he didn't O (for lack of more proper terms) for like 3 days of almost constant love making.  It will depend on his nerves I guess. But that is just my experience.
  • since its your first time, i would use a condom. your guy could go longer and plus you would already have the lube you need. and anyway not all BC are effective and not all condoms are effective. there's still that .1% that you could get something. it may seem like a small number but i didnt take that chance
  • I guess I am with the minority here . . . I would say use one, not so much for the extra protection, but so that he could last a little longer and so that clean up is easier.

I don't really share this sentiment. You can't even feel them if you find the right one. But I do agree with the other posters: you've been on BCP long enough, if you're taking them as you should, you're 99% protected. As far as him "lasting longer" I'm not sure it would make that much of a difference. Seems like a lot of trouble for a couple extra minutes. ;)
