Need Recipe for Cake Balls

DH and I have a BBQ to attend next weekend and I need to make something. I was thinking I'd try these infamous cake balls you all speak so highly of. Can someone shoot me the recipe? TIA

Re: Need Recipe for Cake Balls

  • Here ya go:

    • Make a cake.  I usually do chocolate, but you can do whatever flavor you want.  (I'm lazy and use a box cake mix)
    • Bake it like you usually would
    • Let it cool for about 20-30 minutes
    • Break it up in a mixing bowl.  I just tear it apart into pieces
    • Mix in frosting (again, I'm lazy and use Betty Crocker-or whatever is on sale)  I usually only use about 3/4 of the can, because I don't want them to be too soggy.  I also usually have to mix it in with my hands.  It gets messy.
    • Roll into balls.  I just use my hands, but you can use a cookie scoop or melon baller.
    • I stick it in the freezer for about 30 minutes or so, to cool them.
    • Dip in chocolate.  (I use 5 oz of semi-sweet bakers chocolate and 1/4 Cup of butter melted)
    • Put back in freezer so chocolate can harden.
    • Voila!  Cake balls!!

here's an All Recipes recipe in case mine doesn't make sense.  :)

  • Thanks!! These sound wonderful! Maybe I'll make some tonight just to try it out. ;)
  • They're so good!  My family gives me grief now if I show up at a family function without them.
  • If you want another idea, you could try Oreo Truffles...  I made them for a party and people went whacko over them.  Here's a recipe.  I add a little powdered sugar to the cream cheese and use semi sweet chocolate for dipping and drizzle with white chocolate:
