Healthiest granola/snack bars?

Hi, I'm going to be in a work situation for a couple of weeks where I won't get much of a break to have a snack, and I won't have access to a refrigerator.  I need something I can throw in my bag to chow down on to keep me going mid-morning and mid-afternoon.  What's the healthiest packaged granola bar or snack bar out there?  I do have some almonds that I plan on bringing along, but I really don't like almonds much so I don't want to eat them too often.  Thanks!

Re: Healthiest granola/snack bars?

  • I think the KASHI bars are pretty good-- I like the GoLean Crunchy (not the rolls). They aren't so overly processed like most bars are (think Zone bars, Cliff bars).

Alternatively, you could make your own bars for week on Sunday nights or something. Those are by far the best (taste-wise and health-wise)! If you want an easy recipe, PM me.

  • Oh, I love Kashi stuff but the Go Lean Crunch cereal makes me fart like crazy.  Do the bars have the same effect?  I'm going to be cooped up in a federal courtroom... that would be really humiliating! =)

  • I like nature valley trail mix bars.  140 calories, but 14g of sugar.
  • I like the Kashi TLC bars and the Kellogg's Fiber One bars.
  • I also like the Kashi TLC bars.
  • I'm a big fan of Luna bars.

Maybe make a batch of trail mix, too? Just throw together a mix of nuts, dried fruit, and maybe some chocolate chips.

  • We only buy Nature Valley (DH loves them) and Kashi TLC for a quick snack on the go.

  • I love Clif bars and Larabars.  Bare Naked granola is yummy.  What about taking some carrot stick, those might do ok being left out for a bit.
  • Recently had some Kashi TLC, the raspberry w/ chocolate ones. Sooo good.

I've had the Kashi GO Lean bars (bought an entire box from Costco) and hated the yellow wrapper ones but loved the green and red ones.

LoL, No, not for me, anyway. I've had that reaction with high fiber bars but not at all with the Kashi GoLean bars (I think they only have maybe 3g fiber?). Maybe you could try one out in advance to see how you react?

  • Aside from bars, what about bringing a banana, pear, peach or other "non-noisy" fruit? Bars are great, but I know I get sick of them if I eat too many. Crunchy fruits and veggies might be too loud if you're in a courtroom:)

  • I don't know if they are the healthiest but I love them - the Nature Valley Granola bars. Just the original honey flavor.

  • LARA bars.  They are new and are found in the same area as protein bars, kashi go lean bars, etc.  They are considered "raw" and "unprocessed" and literally have like 2 ingredients.  No added sugar, no sodium, etc. I like the peanut butter cookie, cherry pie, and cashew cookie!
  • The Clean Eating magazine this month has a recipe (w/ nutritional info) to make your own. I think it said you can freeze them for 2 months, so you could make a big batch and thaw them week by week.
