Breakfast: what do you order at a restaurant?

I hate eggs and oatmeal both.  I am in a position where I go to breakfast (used to be lunch, but got switched) about 2 times a week for work.  I have been ordering an english muffin with cream cheese and a side of bacon first week, but I realize I can't keep up this pace - and it's kinda gross, but a nice splurge.    At home I make a smoothie and sip on it all morning.  I don't want to be that stand out though who doesn't order.   Any suggestions for a healthier meal?

Re: Breakfast: what do you order at a restaurant?

  • Here's a few ideas...

Get fresh fruit with anything you order

Omelete with lots of veggies and cheese

Eggs, Whole wheat toast and ham

Overall - your original order doesn't seem bad if you limit the bacon to only once in a while and get a leaner protein most of the time. (ham, turkey sausage, eggs or just yogurt or milk)

Eating breakfast is great, so take advantage of going out to eat a variety of foods and start your day out well!

  • Without liking eggs or oatmeal you're really limiting your healthy options.  I always get egg whitte omelets with lots of veggies, tomato slices instead of potatoes, and dry wheat toast.  YYYUUMM!!!

  • Sorry - I totally forgot that you wrote you hate eggs. Just nix my suggestions that contain eggs.

  • Fresh fruit is always a good option.  Or, how about some whole wheat toast with veggies and a slice of cheese (grilled?).  Or, some cold cereal with some fruit.
  • You could check and see if they have yogurt and add some fruit to it.  Or a breakfast sandwich, sans egg...maybe grilled veggies with some cheese...not very breakfasty but it would work.
  • I agree with the above. Maybe some fruit and yogurt. Possibly with a ww english muffin or bagel.

  • How about some whole wheat pancakes, if they have them?
  • I took my son to the greasy spoon diner the other day; we shared fruit, scrambled eggs, and English muffin toast. It was a total splurge and tasted awesome. If I had to do that on a regular basis, I'd stick with wheat toast, fruit, and yogurt.

  • - Fruit and yogurt or cottage cheese, side of ww toast

    - ww pancakes w/ fresh berries instead of butter & syrup

    - hashbrowns (tell them very little oil) w/ mushrooms, peppers, onions

    - turkey bacon or turkey sausage

  • I always ask for egg whites instead of regular eggs... Wheat bread... Dry toast. That way I can control how much butter is on the toast. Other than that, I enjoy!
  • I LOVE eggs and oatmeal!  I ate eggs almost every night when I was pregnant Stick out tongue It grossed DH out.

What about whole wheat pancakes/fruit.  Do you like omelets?  I order eggwhite veggie omelet  with salsa and light cheese.  Salsa is great to spice up the eggs.

  • I would get a bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon and tomato and red onions.  What about egg white omlette.
