Dog sitter?

DH and I are volunteering for the Avon walk in Charlotte the last weekend of October, and we need to figure out something to do with our dogs. Do any of you upstate ladies have a great dog sitter that you would recommend? We really don't want to board our dogs (we have two)...one has separation anxiety and the other is a nervous former stray who has trust issues. They're not the best candidates for dog boarding :) If anyone knows someone who can stay at our house for two nights (it would be a Fri and Sat night) I'd love the recommendations!

Re: Dog sitter?

  • Where are you located?

Charleston Pet Sitters came highly recommended to me but she discriminates, so she wouldn't take us as clients, but it looks like you won't have that problem with your guys.

We use Moonshadow Kennels and have been extremely pleased. I have never boarded her before and she had so much fun that I put her in daycare there too. My dog is also very skittish and doesn't trust just anyone, she has a "special someone" at the kennel whom she adores and she always makes sure she is there when my dog goes. They are staffed 24/7.

  • I am not sure where you are located but we bring our dog to Camp k-9 Resort in York, SC. Sorry I don't have anyone to recommend to go to your house. The dogs pretty much have free roam at Camp k-9 resort. Here is the website http://www.campk-9resort.com/  You would have to bring them for an interview to make sure they get along with the other dogs but you will also get a tour of the place. The staff is great. Our dog has seperation anxiety so I understand how stressful that can be but our dog loves being with all the other doggies.
  • So I was going to recommend Anita because I know that she does a good bit of pet sitting. Then I remembered that the one time that she watched Red, he slipped out of his collar when she went to take him in for the night and ended up missing for almost 24 hours (she didn't call us until the next morning).  We ended up coming home from Charleston to find him (which we did, a few minutes later).

SO, I'll ask around and see if anyone has a suggestion.  You could call Foolish Heart Kennels to see if they have any ideas as well (that's where Red now stays).

  • Oh my gosh, Lauren...Anita is nuts! I would have flipped. For some reason, Whitman, our dog who loves everyone, does not like Anita. He LOVES all people, except for people who are are not quite all there...he growls at them (we used to encounter this with the crazies in Boston). He reacted the same way with Anita the other day...it was weird, but maybe even more proof that she's a little crazy!

    Bwuhahahaha.

    Red hates her too!

I was taking her cat food last week and noticed some of our junk sitting in her yard (including a single flip flop who's pair I'd lost).  I asked her about it an she admitted to taking it out of our trash when she moved!  She said that what she couldn't "use" she donated for us.

I swear I didn't realize just how weird she was until we moved.  Oh well.  She did bring us food leftover from her church every once in a while and it was yummy.

  • Do you think maybe they'd do better in a place where they weren't crated all day etc?  There's a Camp Bow Wow in Greenville on Airport road.

Do you think someone needs to be at your house 24 hours?  If not, maybe is there a local teen (17-18) who is responsible who could check on them 3-4 times a day?
