can someone please explain?

as more and more people i know have gotten married i am starting to see rather interesting pictures on facebook...

why do people think it's cute to yell i'm pregnant with a peed on stick?  i told Mitch tonight that if we ever get pregnant he is to take the computer away if i think to do this.  i can think of so many better ways of telling everyone the good news.

am i wrong to think your urinated stick is a little gross to have to see everytime i log onto facebook?

  • Yeah, that's a weird way to announce pregnancy.  Personally, "preggo" bothers me, too.

  • Yes, a little odd to see on FaceBook--why not just announce it with an "I'm Pregnant!"?  That would still get the point across I would think!

This does remind me though....when one of my best friends found out she was pregnant she proceeded to bag up all 7 (yes, 7) of her peed-on pregnancy tests and drive them over to where I was.  Her and her H had been trying about 5 years so I figure the shock and excitement were just too much!  Looking back it makes me laugh, and at the time we were both so happy, but I do remember saying "ummm you peed on all those, bagged them up, and brought them to me...you've lost it!" lol
  • yea...I don't get the peed on stick pictures either. Gross.

Lots of ways to announce pregnancy better than that!

  • I get annoyed at the people who annouce everything they are doing on Facebook... no need to use it as a GPS and give everyone half our updates.  I don't need to know when you are going to the bathroom!

I know I am able to change the settings, but certain persons in question might have something important I need to read from time to time.

Preggo is a pasta sauce.  Pregnant is when you are going to have a baby.  That is soo annoying.  That and when people spell is pregant.  No no no!  I've said if you can't spell it, you shouldn't be it haha.

In reference to updates every other second, I've left comments that Twitter and FB are two seperate sites.  Then they deleted me, so it made it less of a hassle Yes

  • I agree it's gross.  Also, I enjoy on facebook my pregnant friends who have to tell the world everything that is going on with their pregnancy -- I mean everything.  I do not really like to know that someone puked up their breakfast twice...

    Good times with social networking!

  • ok just as long as it's not me. sure when i'm pregnant i'll announce it to the world but not the second after there's a little pink + sign on a stick.  i was always told to wait until you hear the heart beat just in case something happens.  and absolutely do not want to know what you just coughed up.. although i'll probably be one of those people who announces when the baby just kicked for the first time.

No, it's definitely not just you that thinks it's weird!

  • Preggo and Preggers both annoy me.  The co-host of the local morning show I listen to is pregnant and they all call it preggers....it's gotten to the point when they start talking about it I turn the station.

I'm disturbed people announce it right when they find out.  Don't people know the common 12 week rule?  I've had a couple people put it all over their wall with "2 week baby bump" photos, etc. and the either it was a mistake and they weren't or they lost it.

I can see putting little tickers on here at 10 weeks, because we don't know you so this is a nice forum to share the news without everyone in your life knowing.  But, once something is on facebook it's hard to take back.

  • chrissy, i agree about waiting since things do happen.  i actually had a coworker who lost the baby only a day or two before the due date.. needless to say when his gf was pregnant again he said nothing.. i think i would probably tell my mom right away but she works for an ob/gyn

  • While on the one hand I totally understand waiting until after 12 weeks to tell everyone...it's hard!  I told everyone at around 7 weeks.  When I lost the baby it was really hard to tell everyone...but I was glad that they all knew because I absolutely needed that support afterwords.
  • But the pictures of HPTs and the "two week baby bump" pictures are a little bit much...I don't needed to see your stick, but thanks.

I completely understand this. My mother went through a mc and she hadn't told anyone because of the 12 week rule. She and my father whethered the bad news alone because she felt somehow responsible and embarrassed. I can't imagine grieving and knowing that no one even knows you are going through that pain.

But I doubly agree - take the two week baby bump pictures if you want, but don't put them on facebook.

  • 1st: you dont even have a "bump" at 2 weeks. You are BARELY getting one at 10-15 weeks. Any "padding" before then is bloat - not baby!

2nd: It is not up to anyone but the couple when they tell people. Anything can go wrong at any point of time in the pregnancy through delivery. We told family as soon as we found out because of some ironic circumstances, but they were all very excited to hear the news. We made sure to clarify that it was still really early so things could go wrong ::knock on wood:: but we wanted to share in the moment with family and friends while we had it, and if things went south they were going to be there for support. Plus it makes for the suffering of the 1st trimester so much easier when people understand what is going on with your sleep deprivation, sickness, and basically a walking mess.

3rd: YES - photos of peed on sticks are gross and very unwanted in my book. You urinated on that! YUCK! No I don't want to see it - I'll trust your word on that. There is such a thing as TMI  Huh?
