Looking for a weekend getaway

Hey everyone!  It's been awhile since I've posted.  DH has officially moved to KC, I'm joining him Aug 10.  It will be nice to be in the same time zone again!  Anyways.  I'm already thinking about our 1st anniversary and need some help.  We're looking for a bed and breakfast or romantic cabin kinda place, preferably a little bit outside the city.  Any ideas??

Big Cedar Lodge just outside of Branson might fit the bill. I know Weston has several bed and breakfasts to check out or you could go to Hermann, stay at a B&B and visit the wineries. Have fun!

  • That's exactly what I was going to suggest MM - the MO side has great little B&Bs and places to stay that are away from the city. Have a great time and I'd love to know where you stay and what you think.
  • Hermann, MO is a lot of fun.  DH and I loved the Adam Punta (sp?) winery.  Weston is good for a nice day trip.  I've also heard good things about The Elms in Excelsior Springs.  I'm sure you two will have a great time reconnecting where ever you decide to go.
  • emsrdh - So I was being nosey and looked at your blog (love it!) and saw on your Miss link that you and DH met on match.com.  I just wanted to share that that is how my DH and I met as well.  Gotta love technology.  I was living in Olathe and he lived in a small town north of KC called Cameron, and there is now way we would have met without the lovely internet.  I love hearing sucess stories.  Welcome to KC!!

  • It's not outside the city, but you might also want to check out Chateau Avalon. It's a really romantic hotel, and the rooms have different themes. We stayed there for the first two nights after our wedding before we left for our honeymoon. It was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone. It does serve breakfast to your room each morning as well.

That's fun!  I was more open about it at first, DH was a little shy.  Almost anyone we tell knows someone else who's met through match.  I certainly don't think it's as taboo as it used to be.  Without it we wouldn't have met either!

  • I second Weston-you can absolutely make a weekend out of it. They have great little stores to wander around down town and a few wineries, the different farms, a great Irish pub, etc. And if you're going during the winter, you could ski at Snow Creek and easily stay in Weston.

We stayed at the Inn at Weston Landing and loved it, but I know there are about 5 different B&B's there!

  • We also loved Hermann, MO.  Lots of great wineries and such a quaint town.
