How'd the helicopter ride along go?

Re: Starlily

  • Short version: We didn't crash and I didn't get sick. Yes

Longer version: It was an interesting ride along. For the first time I attended the officer briefing, which turned out to be boring as hell. After that, my flight officer and pilot took me to their helicopter for my safety briefing. The safety briefing actually unleashed more butterflies in my stomach, especially after the guys said they've never had a crash, only close calls! We were up in the air for approximately 90 minutes. It was a very slow day as far as crime or search&rescue calls, so they just flew their normal patrol pattern. We went as far east as Yucaipa and as far west as Upland. It was interesting to find out how much you can actually see in detail from up there. And it was fun to check out everybody's landscaping and pool designs. We even flew over my condo complex. Eddie had apparently just gotten home and was waving up at us like a madman, but none of us saw him. I took pictures from up in the air, but I haven't posted them on my blog yet. I could have stayed longer, but after the initial patrol they were going to take a dinner break and just wait for calls at the airfield, so I went home. They told me that I could come back anytime if I just clear it with the sargeant, so I'm thinking about maybe doing one after the time change in October. It would be cool to try out night vision goggles. Cool

  • Neat! I'm glad everything worked out for you (and your butterflies)
