XP: Toledo, OH nestie with a Windsor question

We were thinking about going up to Windsor (we're only an hour from there) with all of our friends (kind of a joint b-party thing, but we're not really calling it that, lol) this Saturday for one night and I wanted to see if anyone has advice on an area with bars that are NOT clubs and possibly hotel recs.  None of us are really into clubbing and we'd prefer an area where we could walk around and bar-hop more casual, laid-back places.

We have one person going out with us who is two months away from 21 (FSIL) and she can't get into most bars around here.

This is really a last-minute option we came up with, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask here, if that's okay!

Any advice/info. is appreciated!

  • I got your post - but I will have to get back to you....the whole downtown is bars/clubs....the casino is right down the street too.  There are a few hotels downtown too, so everything is all in one space.

I'm old (34) LOL - so I will need to touch base with my BIL to get some ideas for you.

  • try posting on ML, a couple of the old regulars went to university there, and some, like you, used to go for the bars.

Can you also tell me what the main streets downtown are?  Thanks so much!

  • Ouellette is the main street downtown.

A non-club place that I liked, not on the main strip, I think it's called Dean Martini's or something like that??? It's more of a sit-down and chill crowd. ?Here's a review:

By the way it was 4 years I went there so maybe it has changed since then!?

ETA I realized Dean Martini's has a minimum age... (or at least used to) so maybe call ahead to be sure your 20 year old friend can go!?

  • I would go downtown - Ouellette (between Wyandotte and Riverside Drive) is the main drag, but streets off of it (Pitt, Chatham, University) all have bars as well.

I am not sure where the young crowd hangs - meaning 21 or younger - when it comes to bars, but here are some places that may be okay. I guess it would depend on the kind of music you wanted too.

Phog, The Coach and Pogos - all live band places, very laid back crowds, kind of divey joints but relaxed atmosphere

Pour House - A newer place on Chatham Street. Pub-like, gets pretty busy and caters to the 25 and up crowd.

Vermouth - Cocktail bar, great owners, small place with a great atmosphere

The Room - A dance bar with a bit older of a crowd (over 21 usually)

The Loop - above Pogos - mildy clubish but WAY lass skanky. The Saturday night crowd is a bit young though and IMO the music on Sat blows! Friday nights is Brit Pop/Retro music but it is usually dead until about midnite. They do have pool tables.

I would avoid anything south of Wyandotte, but that's just me.

I guess I could be considered old (33) as well, but we enjoy heading out to hear good bands and having a few drinks! (Well, not in the past 5 months - but before!)

  • As for hotels, if you get one downtown, be prepared for a college dormitory. It is loud and there is partying all night. They like to lump all the young partying Americans on the same floors.

The Casino should be alright though and I think the Hilton is pretty strict. Both are on Riverside Drive.

  • Thanks, everyone!  I really appreciate all of the help!
