Cleaning a Ceramic Sink?

DH and I are renting a house that was built in the 1930's and still has it's original kitchen sink, which is ceramic or porcelain or something... don't really know. Before we move out this summer, I need to really clean it, but it has some stains in the sink from our 3 years of use and a pan that had a little rust when it sat in there overnight. :( What should I use to bleach it and get the stains out? I've tried filling it up overnight with bleach & water and that didn't work.

Re: Cleaning a Ceramic Sink?

  • Some Barkeeper's Friend cleanser and / or a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser might do the trick.
  • My go-to cleaner is Bar Keepers Friend - you can get it at BB&B, family dollar and I think most grocery stores now.  I use it on my old cast iron tub, so I think that it should work fine on your sink.
  • We have the same kind of sink and Soft Scrub with bleach works, but you have to let it set for 15 mins or so for it to really work.  I have found that comet works best, and you get immediate results. Barkeepers friend isnt as abrasive, so you if you're worried about scratching it, try that first, but i've never had a problem with comet and a dobie pad.

    Ditto. That combo is amazing.

  • Comet with Bleach is better than Barkeepers Friend for the sink.  I also spray Clorox Clean-Up after and let it sit about 5 minutes.  It's not very "green"  but nothing works better.  The finish is worn off and nothing else seems to get it as white.  Only 1 more year until we do kitchen.
