POLL: What are the things all men should know

So..DH has this philosophy that all men should know how to...

Tie a tie

Change the oil in your car

BBQ

Sew on a button

Smoke a cigar

Iron / do laundry

Make a bed (properly)

Have good etiquette (ie: know what fork to use etc..)

Does your man know how to do these things? Do you think he should? What else should be added to the list?

  • Tie a tie: Yes
Change the oil in your car: Yes
    BBQ: Yes
    Sew on a button: No
    Smoke a cigar: No
    Iron / do laundry: Iron-No, do laundry-yes
    Make a bed (properly): Yes
Have good etiquette (ie: know what fork to use etc..): Depends.

    Please a woman:  Yes!

  • Tie a tie - Yep

Change the oil in your car - Yep

    BBQ - Yep

Sew on a button - Nope. I'm always sewing new buttons onto his uniform when the pop off

Smoke a cigar - Fortunately not. He doesn't smoke

Iron / do laundry - He's better at this than I am.

Make a bed (properly) - Yep (although I had to teach him the appropriate way to put on the sheet so it folds over correctly, and that you're not just supposed to pull everything to the very top of the bed and stack some pillows on top)

Have good etiquette (ie: know what fork to use etc..) - He's learning. He's certainly not an ogre in public. Although he uses poor manners at my table and his parent's table. I've been slowly teaching him all the proper ettiquette while eating out though

Other things: A man should know how to change a tire, compliment a lady (in a non lame or harassing way), start a fire (like a campfire), and apologize when he's wrong.

  • "Smoke a cigar - Fortunately not. He doesn't smoke"

To clear up the cigar one. DH doesnt smoke either but thinks its important to know how to smoke a cigar in certain situations. Like, if you are with an important client or something.

  • Tie a tie

Change the oil in your car uh. no.

    BBQ yup

Sew on a button yup but he believes I do it better

    Smoke a cigar yup

Iron / do laundry yup. He does it better than me

Make a bed (properly) Yup. I never do it and he always had to make his bed before school when he was a kid/teenager

Have good etiquette (ie: know what fork to use etc..) yup

It would be nice if Brian could learn how to change oil in our cars but he can't. He can fix your computer or build one per your specifications.

    Some other things:

-learn how to put chains on tires

    -cook in general

    -do the dishes

-not only help doing laundry but actually put it away.
