Costco vs. other warehouses?

Howdy! When we were in Fairfax I went to the Costco there and used it every so often for party stuff - birthday cakes, beer, wine coolers, etc., wine, soda, hot dogs, hamburgers, party supplies, veggie tray, and also loved their refrigerated stuff like the tubs o'hummus, dips, party wraps, and other snacky stuff.

My card expired so I'm open to a new club. I just looked online and BJs doesn't mention food or alcohol at all. Sam's Club mentions food/meat but not alcohol.

Does anyone shop at BJs, Sam's Club, or anywhere else near Herndon/Sterling/Chantilly and can you tell me if they have most of the "stuff" I mentioned? Thanks!

Re: Costco vs. other warehouses?

  • The Sam's Club over in Sterling does sell beer and wine.  We used to be members when we lived in Ashburn.  It was always a lot less crowded than the Sterling Costco.  I know the Costco in Chantilly isn't very crowded, but if you go to Sterling you know what I mean!  We like the Sam's club but switched to Costco once we moved to Leesburg.

  • I'm not in Herndon/Sterling/Chantilly, but I personally like Costco best. We have a Costco and a BJ's card and I think Costco has better produce and better meat. I also think they have a better selection of dips, snacks and party type stuff.

  • My father-in-law, who used to be President of the Iowa Cattleman's Association, agrees with us that Costco has the BEST meat, hands down. Their quality is so much better than Sam's. We love the consistency in the meat and vegetables and their return policy for problems. I have been to BJs but was never a member, but I would not ever see a reason to give up my Costco membership....for the gas alone if nothing else!

Plus, they are in so many places. When we have been to Hawaii and stayed in a timeshare with a kitchen, we got everything we needed from the Costco there.

  • Thanks again, ladies! You helped us confirm we'd like to stick to what we know - Costco. We got most of our party shopping done in an hour - not bad!

  • I think someone posted about this a little while ago, and I am the lone BJ's fan.  They have more brands that we use.  And yes, they decidedly DO have alcohol.  Smile

  • Thanks anyway, Denise! I'll actually peruse BJs one of these days since my friend is sending me a pass (especially now that I know there's BOOZE there!).
