Hi ladies!  I posted a few weeks back about DS and my reservations about giving him Soy Milk and his starving and you all were very supportive of my reservations. Shortly after my post, my dad passed away.  It's been a rough few weeks, but I'm taking it one day at a time.  My little guy has definetly helped me to get through this by demanding all of my time!  I never got a chance to update you.  Well, soon after I posted, he started chugging the soy like a champ.  He also went from barely eating to eating 3 meals a day (still purees though) but we still offer him "big boy" food at every meal.  He seems to like carbs (just like his mama).  Funny story- my parents have a beagle.  My niece drops food on the floor from her highchair to feed him.  Mikey saw her do this and he started doing it there.  Now when we give him food on his tray at home, he drops it right on the floor for the dog.  I tell him we don't have one of those here.

He had to go to the pedi last week because he was sick.  He is at 20 pounds, so he didn't lose any weight.  That made me feel a lot better.

Anyways, he is still battling the ezcema and bum rash.  I am not sure if it's milk sensitivity after all.  We're going to see an allergist next week. Hopefully, we find out the cause once and for all. I am also going to buy some Seventh Gen diapers to see if it's the diapers after all this time.

Re: Update

  • Oh, he still has only 2 teeth which I think is a big part of the problem.  We're still fighting some constipation issues.  I quit giving him the laxative, and tried pear juice.  It seems to be the magic elixir for him.  I am going to talk to the allergist about the constipation, rash and ezcema and whether or not some unknown food allergy we haven't pinpointed is causing those, since they started when he was introduced food at six months.

  • So sorry to hear about your dad.
  • Awe Babe - sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad unexpectedly, just over two years ago. He was the first person that I was close to who passed awat.  It was hard, and I'm still dealing with it, but I promise it will start to get better eventually. Especially with that cute little boy of yours :).

And speaking of your son, it sounds like you guys are making progress. Very good news!

  • Thanks ladies!  I never mentioned it before because Dad was very secretive about it, but he was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic colon cancer in 2010 that spread to his liver and lungs, five months after my wedding.  He underwent rounds of chemo and despite it all, he never looked sick.  In fact, to see him, you would never know he had cancer.  He still went fishing, rode his bike, walked the dog and lived a relatively normal life.  Back in November, he began to feel weak for no reason, and was in and out of the hospital these past few months.  His liver eventually failed him.  He succumed peacefully, which is a great comfort to all of us, although I can't imagine what he was going through mentally. Many people were shocked to find out he had cancer.  I'm just taking it one day at a time.  My little boy definetly makes this whole situation easier to cope with.

  • Babe I am so, so sorry to hear about your dad's passing. I hope you can take comfort in your memories of him. He sounds like a tough cookie.

Fwiw, my kid never suffered from eczema at all until this crap of a winter. Now his back is so scaly it's ridiculous. Hopefully when the weather warms, it'll help!

So sorry about your dad. My dad also dealt with a long-term illness (MS) and passed away when I was 16. Like your dad, he continued to live his life, as best he could, until the very end. He was an inspiration to all of us. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him, and ever since B was born, I feel him around me even more. I hope that it will be the same for you. I am sure he is going to want to watch your little boy grow up, so he'll be around :-)

Glad to hear that your son is doing better. I'm sure that it was already suggested, but Eucerin cream is the best thing I've found for eczema. I have had eczema since I was a baby, and still use it to this day. It seems to be the only thing that keeps it in check.
  • Babe, I'm so sorry about your father. I know how hard it is to deal with close family members being sick but not wanting anyone to know. Both my FIL and DH were that way about their cancers. I don't think they understand that the ones that love them need support too. I'm sending you strength, positive energy, and my support in your time of need. :::hugs:::

It's great to hear things are on the upswing with your son and I hope that continues! Let us know how it all turns out. An allergy sounds possible to me but it could also just be this damn winter! Spring is right around the corner (I hope!).
