Brr it's cold in here!

Not really cold in my house, but man is it cold outside!! 25* when I woke up. Nice and chilly for my ride to school this morning.

Did you ladies have a good weekend?

I had so much fun with my little sister Friday night! Even though we only got to spend a few hours together. We went to explore the mall and played a game at home, tanked a small container of chip dip and a whole bag of chips plus a bottle of wine. haha! It was so nice. Saturday morning before she left DH made us pancakes and sausage for breakfast. She had to leave about 9:30 to get to her test on time. The house is now saw and empty again. I told her to come back soon. I hope she does!
I ended up going into work Saturday for 2.5 hours. I don't know why I keep doing that. I hate that place. I just felt bad because the girl working was going to be by herself and she's like the only person I actually like at the store. I ended up just staying on register literally the entire time, it was that busy.
I worked yesterday, too, but it wasn't too bad. We managed to actually get some work done.
Hopefully I hear from my new job this week. Friday will be 3 weeks since my second interview, soooo.

Re: Brr it's cold in here!

  • I'm glad you had a good time with your sister.

It's currently -3 with the windchill here so...26 F. My one daycare girl doesn't have mitts so we can't go outside which sucks. We normally try to do that in the morning while the younger one naps. So instead I need to find a quiet activity to do now that snack is coming to an end.

Our weekend worked out well. We ended up having two of dh's brothers and their other halves over for dinner and the one spent the night. And then yesterday dh and I did a major clean up of our basement prepping to move the spare room downstairs. It feels great having stuff accomplished finally.

  • Morning! Me weekend was good, even though the Bills lost. It was still a good game. It didn't rain or snow during the game so that was good. Other than that it was nice to see my parents. O and I sliced my finger open which sucked.

JLQ: Glad you had a good weekend. Sounds like you made the best of the time you had.

Echo: Good luck with the kiddies.

  • I was in Buffalo, just like Degrea.  I left Philly on Friday and it was 70.  I got to Buffalo and it was 40.  What the freaking hell?

I had a nice time up there.  Good baby shower.  Driving without my husband on a long car ride was ah-MAZ-ing.  Seriously.  I need to do it more often.

Then Jay and I got in multiple fights when I got home.  SCORE.  House renovations = the death of happiness.
  • Joy: Glad you had fun in BLO!! It was cold this weekend though.

  • Joy - Glad you had fun in Buffalo, but boo for fights with your DH.
Degrea - Ouch on your finger! Hope it heals fast!
Echo - Maybe you could buy some cheap mittens at a dollar store to keep at your house for your day car kids in case they don't have some, then you could still go outside. Though I'm not sure why she didn't come with mittens being it was so  cold out this morning!

So they do leaf pickup around here, they come around with a giant machine that sucks them up and the ladies from the prison in a van. Well  DH only got a tiny bit of our leaves racked up! So we only had a tiny pile sitting out at the curb, and they are outside now doing it! Grrr!! I told DH he needed to rake this weekend, but of course he didn't!

  • Hiiii!!! My toes are so cold!
It was freezing in lab this morning. My professor said he thinks they turned the heat off over the weekend. I kept my coat on the entire time and was wishing for my gloves. I haven't been warm since then.

  • Seriously jlq I have no idea why no mitts. I plan to get backups at the dollar store just haven't made it there yet. I've asked them to send mitts. I get it's a pain for a 20 month old to wear them but we need to go outside.

I ate way too many chocolate bars just now...blah. I also need coffee but I'm rocking the youngest one now so it will wait.

  • And I saw a Christmas tree up in someone's house last night while out for a walk with the fam.

  • It's a little early for a Christmas tree! That's nuts!

  • This last week was the week from hell.  My father passed away sometime in the early part of last week (we don't know when) but we didn't know until Wednesday.  The funeral was Friday.  While at the funeral Ellie felt warm and when we got home her fever was 104.2.  By Saturday morning we were at the pedi ER to rule out a UTI.  No UTI but they admitted us because they didnt know what was causing the fever.  We were released yesterday with the promise to return if the cultures showed anything.  We wanted to leave because we wanted to be with my family who was sitting shiva and so I could go say the mourners kaddish for my father.  We went back to my moms and then Emmy fell down the stairs.

Things have nowhere to go but up from here but right now I am super overwhelmed. We are in negotionations for a house but had to get an extension for inspection due to last week circumstances and now I cant get anyone out there to due what we need and the extension runs out Wednesday.  Our current landlord wants to come take pictures of the house so he can list an ad but the house is a disaster since I have barely been home since Tuesday.  Thursday is the girls first birthday and Saturday their party.  We are having 50 people here and I have done nothing.

  • Oh Jodi. I am so, so sorry for the loss of your father. Losing a parent is awful, especially when it's unexpected. If you ever want to talk or vent about it, please know I'm here. My prayers and deepest sympathy go out to you and your family.
I hope that your girls continue to get better, and that things with your house negotiations can go smoothly from here on out!

  • @JodiAriel - that is all so crazy! I'm sorry to hear about your father.

Also crazy about the girls...oh man and the house. I hope things calm down for you soon! I can't believe the girls are a year already!

  • I'm sorry, Jodi.  I hope things improve for you.
  • It was so unexpected.  My father was 61 and although he had health issues nothing that was currently dangerous.  He did have some muscle myopathies that required him to minimize driving so he had an aide who came during the week and took him shopping and basically drove him when he wanted to go out.  She hadn't heard from him since Friday so she called the police for a wellness check (he lived alone, my parents are divorced for many, many years).  They broke into the house on Tuesday and found him dead in the shower.  The last activity we can find is an outgoing phone call Sat night arounf 9:30.  So we have no idea when it happened.  The police were unable to get in contact with my little brother until Wed afternoon.  An autopsy was done before they got in touch with us (Jews dont typically do autopsies) and the cause of death was determined to be Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease which is the same thing his father died of at 63.  We did some research and found that in 66% of men the first symptom of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is heart attack or sudden cardiac death (death within one hour of onset of the symptom), so at least it is likely that he did not suffer.

My father and I had a touchy relationship but it has gotten better in the last few years.  I am so sad that my girls got so little time with him.  I am so sad that he died alone.  I am really struggling with all of this.  And then my baby was sick and my girls were separated for the first time ever.  I'm really struggling right now and so overwhelmed.

  • Oh Jody. My heart just breaks for you.

My sisters&I's father died unexpectedly in September. He died on a Saturday, and we never found out until Tuesday (he also died alone). The last thing we knew was he'd ordered a pizza around 5:00 Saturday night. The police ordered an autopsy, which took a few days, and we never go the official cause of death until last week. (sudden cardiac death)
I didn't have a good relationship with my father, but it still hits you hard. He was your father. I was in a daze for a few weeks. I barely functioned. It still hits me hard sometimes. Eventually it will be easier to live with the loss.

  • ::hugs:: Jodi.  I am so sorry.

The idea of someone dying alone and scared just breaks my heart.  I had a friend in graduate school who didn't come into work one day.  His wife was living in a different city due to school and couldn't get a hold of him.  His lab members hadn't seen him.  Finally, the police went to his apartment and found him dead in his bed.  Burst aneurysm.  It haunted me for months.

You'll get through this time.  One day at a time.  I hope your daughter feels better!
