Confessions of a Shopaholic - saw the movie, ugh! (spoilers)

First off, I have to admit that I wasn't jonesing to watch this movie. I wasn't a huge fan of the books - I only read the first 2 and while I thought they were fun enough, Becky's irresponsibility annoyed the crap out of me.  My gfs basically finangled me into watching it with them by buying me a ticket without telling me. And, I did like Isla Fisher in it (even though I wish Becky had been portrayed as British), she's adorable.

But I thought the rest of the movie was terrible!  I hated the way they totally reworked the story.  I hated that they made Luke her boss, and that Alicia wasn't really his girlfriend. I hated that they made Smeath (the collections guy) out to be the bad guy so it was okay that she paid him back with pennies, when hello? She was the one who was waaay late on all her payments, it's not his fault she dodged his phone calls for months! What else? Seriously, everything but Isla Fisher bugged me.

  • I went into it not expecting much.  I didn't let myself compare it to the book and I think that helped me enjoy it more.  I thought Isla did great as well!
  • I have to agree with you!  Seeing the movie after reading the books (I have also only read the first two books) was very disappointing.  There was so much that they changed.  And what they changed I felt was important in the book.

    However, as a movie itself, it was pretty good.  I think I would have liked it better if I had never read the books, but this is just another example of the book being better than the movie.

  • I loved all the books, quite a bit. From the previews I knew not to expect much. But even if I hadn't read the books, I would have hated this movie. I thought it was so awful. They just tried to hard to make Becky and Suze goofy and kooky. Plus the mannequins... UGH! When they started applauding, I just threw my head in my hands.

    True - the drunk/letter scene was a bit much and the mannequins were pretty cheesy!

    Oh God, yes, I forgot about this... it was totally annoying how they tried to make Becky and Suze all zany! Especially because I hate that actress that played Suze.  I remember her playing the exact. same. role. in Gilmore Girls - Rory's wacky and crazy friend.

    And the mannequins... ::shakes head::
