First month off BCP... frustrated...

This is my first cycle off BCP, and my chart shows no ovulation yet.  My last period started January 1, so I'm on cycle day 31 today.  I've been taking vitex, dong quai blend, have a healthy diet, exercise regularly, don't smoke, I'm 27 and in really good health.  Another weird thing is that I've had NO symptoms since stopping - no acne, no headaches, nothing!

Just wondering if any of you other ladies in your first month of BCP are still waiting?  I know it takes a couple months to regulate, but I'm so bummed, I really thought I'd see something by now!

Anyone else frustrated??

Re: First month off BCP... frustrated...

  • It can take up to a year for your body to regulate itself.

Some women post BCP will ovulate WAY late (post CD 30), other's will O sometime between cd 11 and cd 20, and others will have annovulatory cycles for a while. There's no way to tell.

  • Can you link up to your chart?
  • I DEFINITLY feel you.  I was about to write the same post.  My cycle started on Jan 7 and I also have no signs of ovulation.  I knew it could take some time to regulate but I couldn't help but hope that my cycle would be one of the ones that goes back right away.  Can you link your chart? I added a link to mine.

  • Here's the link to my chart.  I had also hoped my cycle would be one of the ones that regulate right away!  I guess we all want that, of course.  How long were you on BCP?  I was on it for 10 years.   Tongue Tied

  • Your chart kind of looks like mine does.  I had to discard today's temperature because I drank a lot last night and got a high temp due to that.  I was on BCP for 13 years.  We are planning on TTC in May or June.  What stinks about not ovulating is that once it gets this late in the cycle you kind of always have to be prepared for AF b/c you never know! We need some O dust! Sad

  • I went off the pill at the end of November.  I didn't get my first period until 45 days later and let me tell you it was very frustrating.  When I went off the pill the first time before conceiving my daughter my first cycle was 35 days.  So everybody is different and for me, each time has been different so far.  Your body just needs time to regulate itself since the Pill has been doing that job for you for so long.

    Good luck!

  • my first cycle off of BCP also showed no clear temp or CM pattern.  I wouldn't worry too much yet.  If it's any consolation - my second cycle showed a very clear "typical" temp/CM pattern.

  • Butter, if you're temps keep raising, it looks like you  may o sometime in the next few days.

I was on bcp for a year, took a year off, and then got back on for 3.5 years. My first cycle was a complete mess. I'm shocked that it leveled out to some normalcy this cycle (maybe because the BCP I was on had a very low hormone dosage?)

***edit: You can see my first chart off bcp by clicking my ticker. What you cant see in there was the craziness my body was going through.

Same with my first, which was 31 days long.  I'm on my 2nd off BCP and my temps/CM look normal so far (CD 9).

  • When I first came off BCP I didn't have a period for 150 days! The doctors didn't really think anything of it. If you don't have one and it worries you they can put you on Provera or something to make you have a period. I am not sure I rec. that since it's a hormone and your body is probably trying to regulate itself. I was on BCPs for 9 years and haven't ovulated 1 time since I stopped... that was Nov. 06, but I have PCOS and that's what causes that. Just give it time... you'll regulate and have a baby before you know it. ;)
  • Hi twin!  27yo, married, non-smoker, semi-healthy eater/exerciser, first cycle off bcp & CD 31.

My temps are all over the place.  CF is more textbook and suggests I shouldn't get my period until 3-10 days from now.  The joys of being female.

Thanks for the info! That helps and hopefully my second cycle will be more normal.

  • My chart looks very similar to you gals that posted links. I am day 27 (cycle started on 1/6). So I look to get AF in the coming days...but you never know really! It's the waiting game...
  • I feel your pain!  CD 32 today fresh off of BC and nothing.....good luck to all of us!  It is very frustrating!!
  • I feel the same way.  I am on day 45 and no AF yet.  My temperatures are up and down.  I though I was about to ovulate (3 days of eggwhite), but then I got the flu, and my temperature went up to 101 the next day and then down to 96 the next from being sick, and now I can't figure out what's going on.
  • It it helps, here is the chart from my first cycle post-BCP:

  • It took me 3.5 months to ovulate coming off the pill. Hang in there. I know it is extremely frustrating. Your body needs time.
  • I am in the same boat as you ladies!  I went off b/c and had a period on Dec 17th.  I thought I was finally going to ovulate toward the end of last week and suddenly got a period!  That was the 1st since Dec.  I'm now on CD 3 and hopefully things will be looking up this cycle!
