photographers and/or Heights ladies

We had family pics taken today with a photographer who donated a session to a contest, which I won. So, he's not getting paid monetarily, but I'd still like to get him something (he was AMAZING). He and his new wife live in the Heights. I am thinking maybe a restaurant gift card. What would be a good place in the area that they could have a nice meal off a $50 GC?

  • That's very thoughtful of you. Honestly he's probably thrilled to have been able to donate his time.

I second Shade or maybe El Tiempo (on Washington)

  • Another Shade vote.

    So Tasty, So Yummy
  • Bedford or Glass Wall are 2 other options. Bedford is fairly new so they might not have tried it.

glasswall is great but i'd skip bedford. shade is where they'll get the most bang for their buck.

I don't think $50 will buy a full dinner & drinks at either of those.

I went to Bedford last week and I really liked it! Their Mimosa salad is really different and tasty. I am probably in the minority but I don't really love Shade. I have been multiple times and have never been that impressed. I keep thinking that I just order the wrong things, but I just haven't found anything that I love.

my big problem with bedford was the service. our food was goo, but the service was not on par with the prices. as someone else i know put it "the service was far too casual for the menu." we have gone twice and it was the same both times. in fact, the 1st time we went we took a client of DH's and it was downright embrassing- the waitress said things like "hey, you guys know what you want?" Indifferent. generally speaking the 'hood isn't behind this restaurant but i am a big Gadsby fan (Noe was one of my fave spots in houston) so i hope he turns it around.

anyway, as far as the OP i would not essentially send someone to dinner at a place that can be hit-or-miss. not everyone is going to love every restaurant (for example, i hate DaMarco's, which is considered by many the be all, end all of houston dining) but Shade has more fans than not.

  • Sounds like Shade is the winner! Thanks everyone.
