best/worst book of November?

What was the best and worst book you read in November? What made it so good or disappointing?

Best: Paris in Love by Eloisa James -  funny and engaging.  I appreciated that she didn't take herself too seriously.

Worst: The Receptionist by Janet Groth - I was expecting more behind the scenes of the New Yorker.  I didn't really care about her personal story.  Completely forgettable.

Re: best/worst book of November?

  • Best: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Well written and fast paced. I had a hard time putting it down and didn't want it to end.

Worst: The Causual Vacancy by JKR. A long book where nothing really happens.

  • BEST: The Seven Realms series (yes, I'm counting it as one). This series is sooo good and I have devoured them all in the last week! I am finishing up the last one today...I will be sad when they are over :( WORST: Point of Return by Colleen Hoover. This book teased and teased and teased and NEVER delivered! Annoying :P

  • I didn't have a worst book this month. And I'm having a very hard time choosing between Days of Blood and Starlight and Madame Tussaud for my favorites.

  • Best: audiobook of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Love. Love. Love. Worst: The Diviners - it had so much hype, and it did not live up.
  • Best: Gravity by Tess Gerritsen. I could not put this book down. It absolutely captured my attention, and just when I thought I figured out what was going to happen, something else did instead.

Worst: Crossed by Allie Condie. UGH. That's all there is to say.

Worst: The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I had such a hard time with this one...I almost wonder if I missed something since so many loved it.

  • Best: Breakfast of Champions  I wish I had read it when I was younger, because there are a few general truths in the beginning that it took me way too long to realize.

Worst: Bring up the Bodies  It wasn't bad, but it's a 3-star book for me and I had an entire month of 4- and 5-star reads!

    image
  • Best Book: Oryx and Crake

I read it for FBC and didn't know about it until I went in search of a book that began with the letter "O". I really enjoyed the book and have a library hold for the second book. I can't wait to continue the story!

Worst Book: Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

I couldn't stand this book and it took everything in me to finish it. Kaling is great at writing screen plays and that's were her writing talents should stay.

Best: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Well written and fast paced. I had a hard time putting it down and didn't want it to end.

This was my favorite, too!  I was born in the 70's and am myself a gamer, so I loved all the 70's and 80's popculture references.  It made me nostalgic for my old TRS-80 Color Computer and cassette tape player.  I listened to the audio version and Wil Wheaton was a fantastic narrator.  If you like Ready Player One, try Robin Sloan's Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore.

Worst: Torch by Cheryl Strayed.  First, let me say the writing was exquisite.  Strayed is a very talented writer.  I chose Torch as the worst because it became a book I avoided.  It was so heavy and depressing and took me a while to get through.  If it wasn't so depressing I may have rated it 5 stars.  But in a month of really great, mostly 4 and 5 star books, this was the one I enjoyed the least.

  • best: into the darkest corner by Elizabeth Haynes. This book had me hooked from the first page. It was a book I read for the FBC by an author I had never heard of. So glad I read it and can't wait to read more by her. I give it **** worst: Sweethearts by Sara Zarr. This book never picked up for me. It seemed to drag on and on. I give it *

  • Best: Still Alice.  It was SO well written and engaging.  I just couldn't put it down.  I ended up reading it in one day, which doesn't happen very often anymore!

Worst: The Twelve.  I was disappointed with this one.  Just didn't live up to my expectations after The Passage.

  • Best - Blackberry Winter by Sarah Jio.  It was SO good!  The main characters were well written, beautifully flawed and felt realistic.  The story was fantastic.  I couldn't put it down.

Worst -  Summer and the City by Candace Bushnell.  It's the second book in The Carrie Diaries series and I don't think I'll read any others if she writes them.  It was just.. meh..

Oh my gosh, I'm so happy to see someone else felt this way!  I read it a while ago and was not impressed.  With all the hype surrounding it recently, I though I must have missed something too.

  • Best: I read so many good ones. Ummm...lets see I loved Sarah's Key and I loved the Fault in Our Stars. Worst: I would say saying "Worst" is a little harsh but I was a little disappointed by Crossed by Ally Condie. I really did like it, it just didn't captivate me the same way that Matched did. I listened to the audiobook and frequently found myself zoning out and having to go back and re-listen. I did like it. I just didn't love it. ETA: Actually the real worst was probably Smitten by Janet Evanovich. It was a cute story, but totally forgettable.

Yeah really wasn't impressed! Side note...I'm not sure if we are Goodreads friends but I just compared our books and we have almost identical ratings for a lot of books! It's nice to see that someone has the same mind set when it comes to reading :-)

  • Best:  Delirium by Lauren Oliver (4*)

Worst:  The Infidelity Pact by Carrie Karasyov.  It was awful.  The characters were shallow and incredibly one dimensional.  The plot was absurd and I couldn't wait for it to be over. (1*)

  • Best: The Raven Boys. Loved it!

Worst: Probably War Brides. It wasn't all that bad, but just didn't stand up to other books.

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.
    image
  • Best: The Kingmaker's Daughter, by Philippa Gregory.  Worst: 77 Shadow Street, by Dean Koontz.  I didn't finish it.  I might, but I just don't care about what happens to the characters.

  • Ready Player One was one of my favorite books of the year! My husband loved it, too. The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perrotta was the worst. (one star) I am not kidding you, the climax of the book was the very last chapter. Here I am, waiting to see what happens to all these people, and... the book ends. It totally leaves you hanging. I kept thinking I was missing an epilogue or a sequel where the author tells you how everything works out. Also, I thought there were too many superfluous descriptions of tertiary characters. It needed some editing.
  • My best was def On The Jellicoe Road!!! I loved that book!! My worst was On the Edge. I just didn't get into it...at all.
  • Best: Under the Dome.  I'm not usually an SK fan, but WOW.  This book was amazing and I didn't want it to end!

Worst: Don't Let Me Go.  I'm pretty sure the author is a middle-aged woman, not a gay man.

  • My best book in November was Lover Awakened (BDB #3). I loved Zsadist's story.

I didn't read any bad books in November. They were all 4 or 5 star books for me.

View Full Size ImageView Full Size ImageView Full Size Image
  • I had two 5* reads in Nov which was Lady Luck by Kristen Ashley and Seduction and Snacks by Tara Sivec.

The worst was probably a few 'free' ebooks that I don't even remember the name of.  I don't think I had any 1*, so they probably weren't terrible, just not very memorable, which isn't too surprising from some of the freebies.
