First night of Crossfit, what to expect??

My gym is doing a 12 week crossfit challenge that I signed up for and I'm actually really nervous about it! Tonights the first night and I was wondering what to expect? My stomachs in knots just thinking about it. I'm in ok shape, not horrible but not great. There are 4 teams competing against each other so I'm worried about letting my team down. I think if it wasn't competitive I wouldn't be so nervous.

Re: First night of Crossfit, what to expect??

  • you know what?  I'm dealing with kind of the same thing right now.  I'm not sure exactly what crossfit is but it seems to me that it'll be kind of like the exercises we did when I was at Army Basic Training.  Right now I'm dealing with anxiety of not passing my PT test because of my run and my next PT test is in 2 weeks.  I think the best thing you can do is just relax, breathe!  I'm really not a competitive person either (I think why I have issues with my run is because I feel like I'm in a race and that gets me nervous) but you really just gotta do your best :]  when I was in basic, I was one of the most out of shape people there but when my squad was picked to compete in a race against 2 other squads through the tougher obstacle course, I just pushed as hard as I possibly could and didn't stop.  Just keep telling yourself you can do it!  You'll do fine :]

  • Actually Crossfit was nothing like basic! It's insane but a ton of fun, good thing was it was over before I knew it. I am laying in bed sore two days later though.

On another note, I totally feel your pain!! I was in the Army 12 years ago and totally struggled with my PT test every time!  I had extreme anxiety when my PT tests would come up. I'm just not a runner so I always had trouble with it. Do you have anyone to run with you? I found if I got one of my NCO's to run it with me and help me keep my pace I could pass. That and you have someone talking to you and encouraging you the whole time. It was the only way I could pass my run. Do you have anyone you can ask that would do the run with you?
