Stinky Furniture

The dresser we purchased (new) as part of our nursery set is stinky.  We have had it set up in the room for at least 6 weeks now and the smell still hasn't all gone away.  Any suggestions?  I just put some baking soda in each of the drawers yesterday to see if that would work.  Any thing else I could try?

Re: Stinky Furniture

  • Take the drawers out of the dresser and separate them out in a room with the windows open.  Try to get cross circulation in the room through a fan or windows on opposite sides of the house.    Leave the baking soda in the drawers.

It is probably a varnish smell that just needs to outgas.  I will put newly varnished furniture on the screen porch with the shutters open for a week to get rid of the varnish smell.
