I bought my Christmas cards yesterday.

Thinking, "Oh, I'll get these done early!"  Who wants to bet they are sitting in the same place on Dec. 20th and I say, "Why didn't I ever get around to writing those!??!"

Re: I bought my Christmas cards yesterday.

  • Just curious, did you get Dutch Christmas cards?

After 3 years living abroad, we are back in NOVA.
  • Now I can admit that I bought my cards in September!   Over half are already done!

Buuuutttt....that is b/c I find it very difficult to find non-Christmas holiday cards here in the UK and DH & I prefer non-denominational cards as we are not both Christian and have plenty of non-Christian friends and family on our list.  So we bought some custom cards & had them delivered to my parents house during our last trip to the states.  Since over half our list is people in the US, we decided to address them and stamp them and leave them with my parents to mail when it gets nearer the time.  Saves us having to pay international postage!

  • I've bought, addressed and stamped mine too!

I have yet to write in any of them...that is going to take ages!

  • I also bought one yesterday and started doing addresses. I agree it takes forever to write in them. I bought danish ones this year that say God Jul (Merry Christmas).
  • Lol. I purchased ours early last week and waiting for them in the mail now... I always send them out a few days before Thanksgiving (that way recipient will receive a few days following Thanksgiving). I LOVE the season so this is exciting for me.

  • Oh good, I'm not the only one!
  • Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has them already bought, stamped & addressed.   Now I will shamefully Embarrassed admit that I am not doing the hard part this year - I'm not writing anything in them.  We ordered flat cards with a custom message & our names on them, so no writing involved.  Yes, sheer laziness.  I figure people will assume I have enough on my plate getting ready for the baby and forgive me.  Wink

  • Yeah, I have mine too. ?I just need to write them, now.

That's a really good idea!  I hate writting in all of the cards!  We might write a generic message for 80% and chuck in a picture of Milo in a Santa hat :)

  • I guess they are Dutch b/c I bought them here but they are just a picture of a snowflake and blank inside :)

Can I also admit then that I am looking forward to ordering photo cards next year....the kind that don't require writing?  We have 100 people on our list - last year I thought my hand would fall off even after writing pretty generic messages in many of the cards.

Dude, cut down your list! ?We have our families and our close friends and THAT'S IT. ?If you didn't send us a card, we will not send you one and we think we're doing everyone a favor. ?We are stopping the card madness. ?I will send to 19 people this year and even that has my brain exhausted.?

  • We're only sending to family and close friends and we have 70+!

Plus, as much as I complain, I love sending and getting cards!  I love Christmas!

Are you saying I'm an unpopular loser with only 19 friends??

  • Lizzie, I would really like to cut down my list, but every time I try, DH comes up with 85 reasons why so-and-so must be kept on the list. It's aggravating!  That's why I have become all about the "no-write" cards.   I used to not like people like me who had such impersonal cards, but now I get the reality of it. We probably receive cards from about half the people on our list.

    That makes you Miss Patty!

  • I often use?premiumpostcard.com - you can personalize them and upload photos and then type a message or use the same for some and different for others. Plus, it's US based so it ends up being less than $1 each and that includes mailing them. I also use it when I am being lazy and need to send a friend a last minute birthday card or something.?

Germany is crazy regulatory (surprise!) and if I get US sized cards and mail them they are 'too big' and end up costing me 5 euros each. Ridiculous. ?

  • MovingtoMunich... that's a really good idea!
We always make our own - we both draw - and take turns doing Christmas and Chanukah. This year I'm on Chanukah and honestly I just can't get any enthusiasm for it!

We are usually in the states for Thanksgiving so we get them all together then but we aren't going home this year so it's just even more difficult without my mom's scanner and the cheap Kinko's around the corner!

I have to check out that site - if we scan in our files and upload them there that might really solve our problem. Thanks!

  • I only have about 15-20 this year. Wish I had more. If anyone would like a card from me I'd be happy to. I LOVE Christmas cards.
  • Maybe I should put this on my agenda for the weekend is to go and buy cards.  I can mail them when we land in the US on Dec. 10th but at least to get them all addressed and written.
