Splurge vs. Save yahoo article

http://shopping.yahoo.com/articles/yshoppingarticles/801/drugstore-vs-designer-makeup-when-to-save-and-when-to-splurge/

While I don't subscribe to all of the suggestions (too much of a blanket statement), there was one thing that really surprised me. The article said to purchase drug store eyeshadows because they only have a shelf life of 3 months. A powder? Yet blush was listed with a shelf life of 1 to 2 years? I've never heard of eyeshadow recommended to be tossed so quickly. It's a powder and while it is applied near your eyes, you aren't applying that close like you are with mascara.

  • I don't even want to admit how old some of my eyeshadows are.

This.  And I use mascara until the tube runs out, which is a lot longer than a couple of months.  I bet I buy mascara two or three times a year.  I will also keep the same eyeliner for probably a year.

  • That is ridiculous. I keep my makeup until it's finished or until I get tired of it, and I am still alive to tell the tale.

Ditto both of you.  I like to think sharpening my eyeliners shaves the bacteria away ;-)

Haha. I've thought like this too! I was just thinking this morning who really ditches their mascara every couple of months like its suggested? I can't afford to buy good mascara (read: expensive) and replace it 4-6 times a year. That's insane.

  • I do change out my mascara as recommended, but I get the cheap stuff (Covergirl, L'Oreal or Maybelline).  I splurge when I can afford it and get eyeshadow, liner, blush and lipstick/gloss from BB or Sephora and I never have followed the guidelines of when to toss it.  It cost too much $$$ to toss it after a few months.
