Can I get a perm to look like this?

I have out of control hair that is thick, long, and frizzy. Some curls some is wavy and some is straight.  I call it the beast. Big Smile I was thinking about getting a perm so I didn't have to do so much b/c I hate spending time on my hair.  Can they do it like any of the pictures below the top will be straight like this and the bottom curled? The other thing I was thinking was bangs and getting just the bangs relaxed. Is that weird or a bad idea? TIA

Re: Can I get a perm to look like this?

  • I don't think so---all of that hair looks to be styled with a curling iron very meticulously. I think it's best to learn to style your hair the way you want it versus applying chemicals that can actually damage it more. JMO though. I know they have body perms and digital perms now but all that stuff freaks me out. It takes me less than 10 mins to curl my hair so I just do that because it's easy:)
  • Maybe perms have come a long way since back in the day, but no, those do not look like any perm curls I've seen.  Try using a curling iron to curl your hair, or the sock bun or headband curling methods.
  • No, don't do it.  Perm = bad idea.
  • What have you tried to smooth your hair? Have you tried a Keratin treatment?
  • Those are time intensive styles- curling irons and multiple products. A perm might help your hair hold that style, but it will still require a blow out followed by meticulous curling iron work to look like that.
  • Most likely not, I had one in my teens and I still regret it. It was lovely for the first 24 hours. Then it all went downhill.
  • Ok thanks. I have done the Brazilian Blowout and liked it but it is so expensive and still requires maintenance. It takes me about an hour to dry/flat iron my hair now so I definitely don't mess with curling like that.

I think part of my frustration is that I had surgery which makes me loose about half my hair, and stylist still said I had a ton of hair, and it is growing back now so I have all these pieces sticking out everywhere.  I just need the most low maintenance thing available b/c I have no energy due to health issues.

Thanks for the tips and any advice/ideas are greatly welcome!

  • Ok, I don't actually have any experience with this or really know anything about it - other than hearing people talk about it from time to time. But have you heard about a digital perm? I guess it is more popular in asian communities, but it seems like it is less...unruly maybe? than a regular perm. Maybe something to look into?
