I have the DC17 animal for about a yr now.  Mostly like it, but do not find the stair attachment at all useful.  It doesn't seem to turn right when I put any pressure on it, and I don't think it gets the dog hair at all.  I end up using one of the other attachments.  Do other people have this issue?  How do you use it to clean the stairs?  Also, can you buy a new filter.  Mine seems to get dirty and lose suction way too often.  TIA

The steps are dh's job- he just uses the hose (not the wand).  He has to get on his hands & knees, but it works.  I don't think we've used any attachments yet.

I occasionally use the stair attachment, but the brush works fine for me to get dog/cat hair off the couch.  Maybe it's the type of material that makes it work better or worse.  I use the wand a lot because we have high ceilings, but other than that, just the brush.  Our filter has never clogged and I've cleaned it once in the year we've had it. I vacuum every other day and we have two dogs and a cat.

OMG yes, I hate the stair way attachment, I always end up using the flat attachingment and then then the hose in the corners.  I thought I was the only one who had this problem.  We have very basic plush carpet (your basic builder carpet - yuck).

Make sure you have it pushed tightly into the hose.  If you don't then it doesn't get enough suction to work properly. It works better if you attach it to the extendable part of the hose--it stays on better.
