carter's outlet shopping

anyone been to a carter's outlet? Is it worth while vs shopping sales? I want to start shopping for Eve's fall / winter wardrobe but wondering if I would get better deals shopping online at sales vs outlet shopping. But I have not been to an outlet in years and have been dying to go to the one near me.

Re: carter's outlet shopping

  • We have one about 40 minutes from us, but I've never been, so I'm interested in knowing the answer to your question, too.

The one thing is that a lot of outlets carry things after they have been removed from the stores--and I would think that would include mostly "out of season" stuff. You might have a harder time finding fall/winter clothing right now... seems like most would be spring/summer? I could be totally wrong.

  • From my experience, the outlets have a much better selection then you can find online or in other stores. However, the prices are not really that much better. Go to the outlets if you want more selection and don't care so much about prices. Go online or to a dept store that carries Carter's if you are looking for some good deals.

  • They have some great sales but rarely we have only been once and managed to catch a sale and I really cleaned up--onesies for 3 bucks dresses for 5--it was May and they really only had summer stuff.  So you might be able to find some fall stuff. They do have carters bucks which you get stamps for and then you can save an extra percent.  Right now on their site the "baby" stuff is 40% off (or was last week) and they have a code for an extra 25% (FRIENDSHIP) I actually made out pretty good on that.

  • There's one that's about 45 minutes from us, and I've only been once...and I wasn't impressed. The selection was decent but I don't think the prices were "outlet" prices at all! It was pretty much the same as in-store. I got a few things that were on clearance, but not as much as I was hoping for.

  • I was going to offer up the Carters code that Amy did. I subscribe to their emails so I get a lot of coupons. I go to the Kittery outlets frequently and have had good luck there. But I was just there and they didn't have the best fall selection. Lots of t-shirts and basic hoodies & leggings. As well as a rack of interesting Thanksgiving outfits :) I think with the sale going on right now you can shop online and get the same deals.
  • Carter's outlets carry the exact same stuff as is currently in the Carter's stores.  The prices are very close too.  The special one-day sales at the outlets may sometimes be better if you can catch them.  I haven't been impressed though.
  • Our Carter's outlet has about the same stuff as the store for the same prices.  The difference is I can get coupons from the outlet mall usually (VIP shopper sign up/coupon book).  The outlet also has a better clearance section.

This is where I usually get the most out of the outlets. We went to the Conway one a couple weeks ago and I was able to get pants, a fleece one piece and a 6 pack of socks for the new baby for $15. Other than that, it's just a bigger selection and occasional store sales like others have mentioned.

This begs the question... what the heck is the point?  :)

I have not shopped a lot of outlets, but I remember going to a Gap outlet a few times a few years back... and they had different stuff than what was in the store. I bought a fall jacket in the spring, etc.

I guess I will not be making the 40-minute trip to the outlet anytime soon! Ha!

Even MORE interesting is that places like Gap, BR, JCrew make things specifically FOR the outlets.  It's their "Factory" stuff.  So, it's less good quality (generally) to start with....but they sell it cheaper than their regular stuff so people think they are getting a great deal.  I don't get it either.

My ILs live very close to a huge premium outlet and I like to go to the places where I know it's their normal stuff - just discounted.  That doesn't mean I don't pop into Carter's to see if they are running a special sale.
