What do you love about your iPad?

So excited, I won a free iPad in a drawing at work today!  Normally with something this big I would have researched it to death first, but since this wasn't expected, I'm a bit overwhelmed.  I'm sure I will pick it up as I play with it, but I need some guidance!

So, what do you love about yours, and what do you use it for the most? What do I need to know to get the most out of it? Treat me like an idiot, no advice is too simple or obvious. Thanks for any insight!

When people are the most unlovable is usually when they need it the most.

Re: What do you love about your iPad?

  • I have a 3G version, so I use it like a daily newspaper. Every morning on the way to work, I pull up Flipboard and read articles about tech and travel. (You can link the app to your Google Reader account and view an entire folder as a single source feed, which is very convenient.)

I also have the iBooks and Kindle apps and use it regularly as an e-reader. In addition to buying books, I follow Inkmesh on Twitter and use their updates to go find free Kindle books to download. I love it that I can take dozens (hundreds in my case) of books with me when I travel, since I never know what I'll feel like reading.  I also load films and TV shows on it when I travel, since there isn't always something exciting on the plane.

I get some of my magazine subscriptions digitally now (using Zinio or the magazines' own apps) so that I can save paper and so that I can keep those magazines forever without needing to store them all someplace.

I play Words with Friends and Carcassonne against my friends/family around the world.

I use IM+ to chat with friends on Facebook and GMail chat without needing my laptop. I use Skype to call people from overseas or to video chat with friends/family.

I have the camera connector so that I can pull photos from my SD card and show them to less tech-savvy family in a handy slideshow.

I use it for social networking (Twitter, Facebook, Google+). I use it for surfing the web. I use it for maps.

Basically I use it for everything I used to do on my laptop except writing (which I do sometimes now thanks to a Bluetooth keyboard), photo editing, and downloading large files.
