Doggie birthday cake?

salimoosalimoo member

Hi there. I usually post on ML and Relationships but I lurk over here sometimes. I have a soon-to-be-two maltese/wire fox terrier shelter pup named Munchie and I want to give her a special treat for her birthday on Wednesday.

I'd love to bake her a little cake in a ramekin but I'm not sure which recipes on the internet to trust. Plus they're all for full-size cakes and, well, she's 10lbs and the BF and I are not going to eat a dog cake, lol.

I apologize if this is a ridiculous question and here's a pic of my little girl for your troubles!

Thanks!

Re: Doggie birthday cake?

  • What a cutie! There are some recipes here. The Apple Crunch Pupcakes don't look too bad, but I would skip the vanilla.

With that said, I don't feed grains and therefore don't make cakes, so hopefully some others will chime in on the ingredients.

  • I have not tried these yet but I plan on doing soon!  http://www.dog-treat-recipe-exchange.com

  • Instead of buying or making a cake, why not try doggie ice cream? We buy it for our Basset Hound, and he loves it! He licks it nonstop until its gone. Its called Frosty Paws. We get it in the ice cream section at Walmart. Its made just for dogs and I think its peanut butter flavored. The box comes with 4 individual cups...so she can have some for later! Plus if you live where its hot like we do, you pup will love the cold treat!

We make our own doggy ice cream, and my girl goes crazy for it! This is the recipe I used, http://www.geekgirlcamp.com/2009/07/how-to-make-frosty-paws/ it's super easy & a great treat when we get home from walks and she's hot.

I make those for Tyson too! Cheaper then Frosty Paws and sooooo much better for your dog!

Oh I want to try it! I do agree that homemade will be healthier. I'm going to try it. Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks for the recommendations! I saw that Dog Food Recipe Exchange site but was wary of it as there are so many of those ad traffic sites out there.

I feed grain free and make her wheat/soy/corn-free treats so I have some of the specialty flours on hand, too. Though she does LOVE ice cream ...
