Pot-stirring poll

Gonna shake this place up a bit.

What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party?

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion?

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why?

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling?

Who makes more money, you or H?

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not?

Re: Pot-stirring poll

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I am registered as Independent, but I am liberal in my politics.  I generally vote Democrat.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? I was baptized and confirmed Roman Catholic.  Working for the church has changed a lot of my views.  I consider myself a lapsed Catholic now and am thinking about checking out other churches/denominations.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? I really love Welsh Corgis.  H wants a husky, but I am against it because of their size and because they shed.  We won't be adopting a dog at least until we have a house, though.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? I went to both public and parochial schools, and I definitely favored the parochial.  H went to only parochial school and wants to send our kids to Catholic school when the time comes.

Who makes more money, you or H? I make more per hour and per paycheck, but once H is hired as an EMT, he'll be making more in both areas.  It's just a matter of time.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I finished my B.A. in English/Journalism and I went back to graduate school for my M.A. in History.  I am taking a medical LOA right now from school and trying to decide what I want to do, if I'm going to finish the M.A. or if I want to go in another direction.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? I think so.  I would really like to just focus on school and finishing, and children when they come, rather than juggling a full-time job and school.  But I have a feeling that it won't happen.

  • Fun!  I'll play!

What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party?  Lean to democrat for the moment.  I prefer to look at candidates vs. party affiliation.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion?  Grew up Roman Catholic.  There are a few things I do not fully believe in.  DH (who is Presbyterian) and I have been talking about raising our kids Episcopalian, which I have been thinking about converting to for a few years.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why?  Shelter/rescue dog first!!  But, if I had to pick a purebred, I'd go with a Newfoundland becuase I think they are gentle giants (and I LOVE big dogs!).

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling?  Public if it's a good school system.  If it wasn't, I would have no problem putting my kids in private school.

Who makes more money, you or H? Monthly, I do by a small amount.  Annually, he does (he gets nice bonuses).

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?   Finished undergrad with a degree in Physics and graduate school in engineering.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? I would.  I don't love my job now, but regardless, both of our moms were stay at home and we'd prefer that option if it's possible.  However, I have a feeling I'm going to have to work at least part time (not so bad with my current job since I do work at home). I do worry I'd go crazy and would have to involve myself in lots of activities with other adults with kids.

  • Of all the stuff you said, Bay, the only one that's going to make me debate with you is the Husky ;)  How big of a dog do you want? purebred huskies are usually closer to like 40-45 pounds, so really not that big. They're pretty thin (so they are taller, I guess.) Our monster husky/golden mix is about 60 pounds now.  Although, I won't lie- he sheds a lot.  BUT it's super easy to keep track of, and I'm used to vacuuming almost daily anyway. They supposedly only shed big twice a year. Puckett sheds more, but I think that's the Golden in him, not the Husky.

  • Suckage! I was on the last question and lost everything I wrote! Stupid computer

What is your political leaning? I'm a moderate liberal. Do you affiliate yourself with any party? No, I don?t. I used to work for the DNC quite a few years ago. These days, I tend to just research all the candidates and pick the one who aligns more with my values.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs? I don?t really have any. I do believe in a higher power, but aside from that, I just don?t know. Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? Well, after I took an intro to religious studies class in college (we studied Christianity, Judaism and Islam), I researched many more religions on my own. I definitely was considering Buddhism for quite a while.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? I?d really like an English sheepdog. I?ve always wanted one. Well, actually, I wanted three of them, but I?ll settle for one. They?re just so big and fluffy. Ah, I?d love it.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? Public schooling, but I definitely think it needs to be reformed.

Who makes more money, you or H? H makes more than double what I make.

Did you finish school? I have not. I went away to a 4 year school my freshman year and didn?t go back. I?ve taken a few more courses at a junior college. What is your degree in? n/a Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what? I?d like to at least finish my associate?s degree, but I really have no idea what I would like to do.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it? Oh, absolutely. Why or why not? I?d have more time to keep the house clean while doing everything that I want to do. Right now, with running and my crafts, I just really can?t find the time to clean everything. I actually got up at 4:30 this morning so that I could straighten up the house a little bit before work.

    PAL/PGAL Welcome!
  • Hahaha, Steph!

I only had a smaller dog (basset-dachsund mix) when I was growing up, so bigger dogs (ones that can reach my shoulders when they rear up) make me uncomfortable.  I also (and I have mentioned this before) was attacked by a pit bull last year (and I KNOW that it's the problem with the training, not the breed).

I have a feeling I will lose the battle.  Someone down the street from us has a husky puppy, and every time he walks him, H goes to the window and is like "Husky!  Husky!  Bay, look!  Husky!  Do you see it?"  It's kind of funny.

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? Libertarian, I guess, if I had to choose one.  I'm very fiscally conservative, but very socially liberal. Basically, I just want the government to stay the f out of my life ;) I voted for Obama (only because McCain chose Palin.)  I'm worried the only Republican options this next election will be Pawlenty or Bachmann, at which point I may need to annex myself from Minnesota all together. haha

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? This is a hard one for me. I was raised ELCA (pretty modern/liberal Lutheran- they're the ones that voted to allow gay pastors last year.) But after my parents divorce, I started attending an Assemblies of God church with my friends.

Currently? I definitely believe there is someone out there, 'above' us. I just don't know what that means to me right now. I just have such a hard time with my faith, because I have so many issues with organized religion.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? welllll we already adopted a Husky/Golden mix :) We do want another. We're usually drawn to similar size dogs- 40-50 pounds.  I'd be fine with a slightly smaller dog (NOT a rat dog though. I hate small dogs.) Maybe even a boxer or pitt if we found the right one.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? I attended one of the best public schools in the country (still ranked #1 in the state of WI.) BUT, I know not all public schools are that well maintained and supported by the community.  It'll depend on where we live, and what the education options are when we have kids.  I'd never home-school though. I think a huge important part of schooling is the interaction and social skills, along with the actual education.

Who makes more money, you or H? Right now, H. If I get the promotion I applied for, we'll be exactly even.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I have my Bachelors of Science in Economics.  Waste of a degree (and $40k in student loan debt).  I'm glad I have a BS degree, but I wish I would've take it more seriously when I chose my major.  Eventually, I'd like to go back and do a Masters in HR or business or something similar.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? While my kids were little, yes. But I'd want to have at least a part-time job. I, personally, am too independent to not have my own means of a living.  My mom stayed home with my siblings, but taught 1-2 nights/week after my dad got home from work.  Then she had her 'own' money, too.

Once my kids were in school, though, I'd be back at work. I would be too bored (and not stimulated enough) if I just sat at home all day.

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I'm a registered democrat, however, lately (feel free to flame) I've been voting republican. I am a fiscal conservative, but very liberal on social issues, but when it comes to voting, the fiscal side takes over. I took this political topology quiz and fell into the "post modern" category which I found really interesting: link to quiz

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? I am Hindu and from a pretty religious family. I believe in God and a greater being, however, I am open to any religion. I think when we have a child, s/he will be raised with knowledge of both Hinduism and Catholicism (since that is what MH is) as well as an understanding of all religions at a high level.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? We never had a dog growing up, but MH had a bischon and he was adorable. We would probably stick to a smaller breed of dog that does not shed.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? I favor public schools, but I have nothing against the others.

Who makes more money, you or H? MH does.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I have a BS in Information Systems and an MS in the same. Not sure about more school. I think about it sometimes, but for now I am going to focus on job related certifications.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? I think I would, since my parents were always around when I grew up (they were self employed) and it was nice looking back on it. Realistically though, I am not sure if that is possible financially. Not to mention that I'd probably miss doing some sort of work/having a career.

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party?

Liberal socially and for the most part economically. I vote democrat but lately I am so disappointed with nearly all politicians with the exception of the president.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? I was raised Catholic but have real issues with a few of the institutional items. So now I would say I am spiritual, rejecting pretty much all institutions. I believe in a higher power and like the concept of heaven or afterlife. I believe in the golden rule to live life by.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? Japanese Chin or another Brussels Griffon. my Brussels is the most amazing dog in the universe. I may be a little biased though.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? Probably private since I think the public one near me is sketchy. I don't have any experience with public schools as I went to a Catholic one until college. I would never home school.

Who makes more money, you or H? my H but I'm slowly catching up.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I have a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a MA in Architecture. Working on my Architecture License. I won't go back to school, but in retirement I plan on taking a lot of art classes.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not?
Absolutely. But it is not in our cards. We need both incomes to live comfortably and I don't mind working part-time if the child was young.

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I am registered as Bipartisan, but I'd say my beliefs most closely resemble "conservative"...

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? I am Christian. (Baptist if I had to be specific).. haven't ever considered changing. (But I'm also not pushing other to either)

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? I want a lab mix. In my experience, they tend to be protective, friendly, and behaved for the most part..

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? personally, I think public school allows children to experience a lot of tough situations before being hit with them "in the real world" and I've seen many people in private or home-schooling completely rebel or be socially awkward (definitely not true for ALL though, just saying why)

Who makes more money, you or H? Definitely DH.... but maybe after I get my degree and everything, we'll make the same :)

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I am still currently attending college... taking the semester off due to baby, but will be going back in the Spring semester for Ultrasound.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? Ehh, If I were still allowed to go to school and graduate, I'd take it, but DH knows I'd get way too bored sitting at home all day and I'd feel less than what I'm worth... but it would be great to stay home with my baby for a longer period... so I'm a little torn.

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I am not registered with any party, I've tended to vote democrat

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? i was raised catholic and consider myself baptist now, i stopped going to church after i was forced too and started going to my husbands church to get married, I again stopped after the wedding,  havent been to church since easter, bad bad girl

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why?  i dont really know since i am not a dog person..i did see a solid black german sheppard the other day that was beautiful though

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? public but that may be because I have no other experience

Who makes more money, you or H? me

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  i technically am a certified medical asst. but i almost run the office.  i would like to be a social worker so if I go back to school it will be for that

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? yes in a heartbeat. i dont want to miss a thing, plus no one cleans my house like me and if i were home it would be spotless all week except only on the weekends lol
  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I don't really align myself with any party...I do have more conservative beliefs, but prefer to look at candidates individually

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? I am a Christian and attend a non-denominational church.  No I will not ever change my religion because I believe in Jesus Christ and am firm in those beliefs.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? I doesn't matter to me.  I believe only in adoption, so whatever dog would seem like a good fit for our family.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling?  I only ever attended public school, so that's all I know personally.  H's nephews are home-school kids.  The eldest just finished his first year of college and had a hard time adjusting to a large class and being more of a face in a crowd.  I'm not saying home-schooling is completely bad, but it does have a down side.

Who makes more money, you or H? I do.  I make pretty good money as an RN and I work at night so there is a shift differential added on to my base pay.  H makes good money too, but numbers-wise I bring in more.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what? Yes I have a bachelor's degree in nursing.  I do not have any desire to go back to school.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? I would to give my child more attention, and because child care is so expensive.  We are due with our first in February and we are considering me changing to part-time (2 nights/week) or PRN (3 or 4 shifts/month).

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party?  I'd describe my ideological views as Libertarian, but I'm registered as a Democrat.  There are a lot of social issues I think the government should butt out of, but I don't feel like the Libertarians present realistic, implementable solutions.  I've visited a lot of developing countries where the government doesn't/can't maintain basic needs and infrastructure (Pakistan being the worst I've seen), so realistically I think the government has to spend money on certain things for Americans to have a developed-nation standard of living and keep advancing.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion?  I'm Episcopalian, because I was born that way lol!  I've never given it much thought and probably don't believe everything literally, but Episcopalians are pretty flexible.  I don't think changing religions would impact my life since that's not a big part of it.  If we have a kid we will raise him/her with both religions (DH is Hindu, but his family is also not religious).  I wouldn't make a big deal out of it, because I think most religions are basically the same.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why?  Oh, so difficult!  Dogs are all adorable!  German Shepherd, Husky, Malamut, Border Collie, anything large and athletic.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling?  I went to private school until HS, then a public HS and university, and private grad school.  My private schools were a waste of time and I will send my kids to public school.  DH went to Catholic school and loved it.  One of my friends was home schooled briefly and it was a disaster.

Who makes more money, you or H?  H... no contest.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I have a BA in Political Science and an MBA (Business).  I'm done with school, but there are fun things I'd love to take a class for, like diving, pastry making, or Chinese language.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not?  I was for part of last year.  My mom was, and I definitely think it's good for kids (DH also enjoys a better lifestyle if I'm at home).  We talked about it and agreed that when DH hits a certain income I'll stay home.

The downside is that when you stay home this is what you actually do:  make breakfast, wash up, (DH often takes early morning conference calls from home, during which he needs pen, paper, water, etc.), receive to-do list from H before he leaves, groceries, laundry, post office, Target, mopping, vacuuming, more cooking, more washing up, drop in guests (because you're at home, so what could you want more than to have unexpected guests?), cooking again, more washing up.  Also, anything that comes up is on you, like calling the plumber, taking the car in, dealing with family crises, etc.  So I guess I find being at work more relaxing lol!
  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I tend to lean more liberal.  I typically vote democrat.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion?  I'm a cradle Catholic.  I never seriously considered converting, all though I was away from the Church for about 10 years. I went to Catholic School, and we got a new priest.  This priest had been previously convicted of sexual misconduct with a 14 year old, and the school allowed him to be around children.  I had some serious issues with that for many years (here's an article about another indiscretion in 2002)  I briefly considered converting to Lutheranism (I was dating a Lutheran at the time), but never did.  I had a terrible year in 2008 with several deaths in my family.  I started feeling lost, and went back to church.  I was still apprehensive, so I did a lot of research on topics I felt uncomfortable about.  Now I'm sure it's the right choice for me, and I'm going to have my children baptized as well.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? I prefer mutts, actually. I'm a huge fan of rescuing dogs.  I currently have a poodle missed with at least two other breeds.  If I must pick a purebred, I'd say Chocolate Lab or Golden Retriever.  They're so playful and perfect for kiddies.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? I went to both public and parochial, so did DH.  I like parochial because it prepares the children for their religious education, and I think having some kind of religious education is important.  I also like uniforms, because then kids don't judge you on how you dress.  Now, I went to public school starting in 5th grade, and I think I grew more as a person in public school.  I think the teachers were more experienced dealing with a more diverse group of children.  There's pros and cons to both.

Who makes more money, you or H?  Me

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I have a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science and Engineering.  I'm not sure if that's considered "finished" to all people.  I don't plan on ever getting a MS or PhD.  I've been working in this field for almost 4 years since graduation, and lately I've been contemplating going back to school to get a Bachelor's in Secondary Math Education.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not?  Yes.  I'd love to be the person who raises my children instead of someone in a daycare center.  I'd go back to work part-time once they're all in Kindergarten or older.

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I can't stomach either major party, but if I had to pick one, I'd pick Republican. Blah. Lol.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? No surprise, I am Catholic. I was technically baptized Catholic as a baby but never really understood it growing up and in fact, had disdain for the faith. I was agnostic as a pre-teen and teen and became evangelical Protestant in my early 20's. Around age 22, I rediscovered Catholic teachings and finally understand it and love it. I was confirmed at age 24.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? Catahoula. I love my sister's pup... such a great personality and a great guard dog.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? I attended both private and public as a child. Public - I did not receive nearly a solid enough education. Was bored and got into trouble. Private - had a good experience but we'll see if we can afford that route. I personally would love to home school my kids IF it was the best route for them (I am a firm believer that each child has different needs, and I don't have one set mold - case by case basis). My nephew (age 6) is home schooled (classical curriculum - love it), and he is benefiting so much. So he gives me a better picture of what that path would be like.

ETA: It's a common myth that homeschooling is weak in the socialization area. When done well, homeschooled students are often highly socialized. On the playground, my nephew is the kid all the other kids want to play with. :) (Pretty amazing to me since I was so shy growing up and was never that kid). Unless you take an isolationist approach, homeschooling offers tons of opportunities to interact with people and the world.

Who makes more money, you or H? H does but I have more career options.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I got a BA in English. I've used it since graduation 8 years ago as an editor and writer. I am currently getting a license in fertility awareness. If I had no responsibilities, I'd be a forever student. :)

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? Yes! I'd love it. I was a career woman all through my 20's, but I've never fit the corporate mold. I wouldn't mind working part-time or from home occasionally though. I tend to like "doing my own thing" anyway. :)
  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party? I am registered independent but tend to vote for the person not just the party. I see myself more on the liberal side for 'major' issues though.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion? I was raised Catholic and we plan to raise our family this also

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why? I wouldn't get a dog from a breeder, only a pound puppy/older mutt for me! If there happened to be a particular breed in the pound I wouldn't not get it because it isn't a mutt. But nothing big - H has no experience with dogs at all but I do and I don't want to walk a big dog or clean up the poop!

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling? We both went through public and turned out just fine. I can't imagine paying the 10's of 1,000 is costs around here for private unless I were rich and I don't see that happening

Who makes more money, you or H? I do! I do! By about 20%

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what? I have a BS in Business Admin. No more school for me, I am done.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not? No. I wouldn't mind staying home with my baby til he was about 6 months but would have to go back at least 3-4 days a week. I couldn't do it each and every day all day long. I'm not a fan of house work. And I have seen the good in day cares (I know not all are that way). My son is going to my moms day care.

  • What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party?  I'm registered as a Republican, but honestly I hate all politics.  I think so much of it is one side BS-ing the other side, and it just frustrates me.  I am a little more conservative on some things, but kind of liberal in others.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion?  I'm a Christian, non-denominational I guess you could say.  I'm more concerned with learning about God and having a personal relationship with him than I am about participating in churchy, religious-type things.  Although I have recently started going to church again.  I've never changed religions - I grew up this way.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why?  To be honest, I'm afraid of adopting dogs - I am afraid they will have behavioral problems that I just can't handle.  I know tons of people have wonderful experiences with their adoptions, but I'm a very particular person and just haven't been able to consider this as an option for us.  I do admire those who adopt though!

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling?  I think they all have a place.  Public should have all the support that the government can muster - if we fail to educate the vast majority of today's kids, what on earth is going to happen when they're the grownups and they're running things?  Private/parochial has its place too... I'm honestly not familiar with this as I grew up in a small town with one church school and the kids who went there (all 10 or so of them) were pretty weird.  Well, most of them at least.  As far as home school, it's not right for me and my future kids, but it has its place too, and can be great in some circumstances.  However, I knew some kids growing up who were homeschooled and I think the "home" was more of a priority than the "school" and that isn't right.

Who makes more money, you or H?  Me

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I have a masters in taxation, and I'm not going back... Although I've considered going back to get my teaching certification, but given the state of the education system and all the budget issues, I don't think right now is a great time to make that career change.  And also, my new job is going much better than my last two, so I'm not giving up on my current career just yet.

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not?  Heck yes.  Honestly, I don't really like working every day - nobody else does either, I'm sure, but I feel like I'd be much happier staying home.  I'm quite the homebody.  And then when we have kids, I would love to get to hang out and play with them and teach them stuff all the time.

Very well put!  I think a stigma on the church is that there's all of these rules and that people get judged (which I am aware that is how some Christians conduct themselves) when it should be more about a personal relationship with God.

  • Thanks.

In the interest of stirring the pot, I'm surprised by how many liberal-leaning folks there are on this board (almost double) - I'm totally not being judgy, just observing... I'm from Texas so it feels like everyone around me is more conservative, so it's refreshing to have more varied viewpoints.

Let's take it one step further... WHY do you lean the way you do, politically?  What led you to believe that way, and what's the biggest hotbutton issue for you that makes you call yourself liberal or conservative or whatever you are?

*All this in the interest of getting to know everyone a little more - not trying to be mean or judgy or call anyone out*

  • Wow, this is a good one!  I've been really interested to read the answers!

What is your political leaning?  Do you affiliate yourself with any party?  I am registered Republican, but I will reregister when I renew my license this week as an independent.  I consider myself conservative in the traditional sense (fiscally conservative, but very socially liberal), and the R party pretty much disgusts me right now.  They're mostly a bunch of big spenders butting government in every aspect of my life, which is exactly what they are supposed to stand against.  RINOs.  The Libertarians seem to have ideas a little closer to where my own stand, but I don't think I"m ready to get behind that label.  I vote very mixed tickets each election, based on individual candidates rather than party lines.

What (if anything) are your religious beliefs?  Have you ever converted or considered changing your religion?  I was raised Roman Catholic, and refer in jest to myself as a "recovering Cathoholic."  I still consider myself a Christian, but I do not currently attend a church, as I have not found one I like.  My mother still attends our old Church from time to time, but she is unhappy with it as well.  When we all move to my H's hometown, we plan to start attending his family's Episcopal church.  The priest from their church married H and me and we adore him and hope that we will feel at home in their church.

If you were to pick a breed of dog to adopt, which one would it be and why?  We have a pitbull and I would adopt another in a heartbeat.  Or an Am Staff, as my husband loves the idea of having a mini-me for our pit.

Which education system do you favor -- public, private/parochial, or home-schooling?  I have no preference.  I think different types of schools work best for different learners.  If I could home-school my son, I would, and I never thought, years ago, that I would ever think that.  Although I am happy with the public school my son attends.

Who makes more money, you or H?  I do.  I used to make a lot more than he did (when we first moved in together) and it was a fairly big source of strife, but he was working for tips and his pay was very unpredictable, so that's why it was so stressful.  I had never dealt with that.  I still make more, but only by a couple thousand, and he is salaried now, so we have a budget and it's easy to deal with our money.

Did you finish school?  What is your degree in?  Are you planning on going back to school, and if so, for what?  I have my BA in English and started an MA in it as well, but I quit my program after a year.  I wasn't happy and realized that teaching wasn't what I wanted to do after all.  I would like to get an MBA, but I don't have the time at this point in my life to try and go back to school.  Someday...

If you were offered the chance to be a SAHW/SAHM, would you take it?  Why or why not?  In a heartbeat.  I don't see anything wrong with being a SAH parent (my best friend's husband will be a SAHD when their first is born).  I don't feel so devoted my job or any career that I would feel unfulfilled by staying home.  I had my son young, and I ended up in school for undergrad fulltime and working as well, sometimes two part-time jobs, in order to make ends meet.  There is so much I missed out on and so much I wish I had the time or energy to do with my son that I feel he suffers for now.  If I could be home with him (or any potential future kids), I would feel so much better.  As it is, I kill myself at a job I hate to help keep the roof over our heads and to provide the benefits.  I hate it.
