I am reading Divergent and The Virgin Suicides.

Divergent seems to be OK.  Not great.  I am only 20% in (according to my Kindle) and I hear great things about this book but I have yet to be *grabbed* by it.  It sort of reminds me of The Hunger Games and since I read that series so recently I think my mind keeps reverting back to that story as I read Divergent.  I am only a short way into the book and by no means have given up on it but I'm hoping it catches my attention more.

The Virgin Suicides sounded like it would be interesting.  I was excited to start on this one but let me tell you, it is BORING!  The narrator and his friends are obsessed with the girl characters in this book.  It is so annoying and sickening actually.  On top of that the author describes everything in detail beyond belief.  I love feeling like I'm part of the story but when the description of something makes my mind wander and I start dazing off there's something wrong.  In other words the descriptions take away from the story so much so that you forget what you're even reading about.  It's like there's no story at all, just endless details about a tree, a carpet, a car, the way someone smells, the way someone stares, etc.  really?  Keep it a little more simple please.

Outlander. It took me about 200 pages, but now I'm hooked. I'm about halfway through the 700+ pages. I read for a solid 2 hours last night and would have read more if I wasn't so tired. I'm looking forward to reading some more tonight.

I also have The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks from the library that I need to return or renew by Tuesday. Hopefully I will get to that this weekend. It shouldn't take me long to read it. I breeze through his books. I liked the movie based on the book so I'm hopefully for the book even though his books are generally the only ones that I tend to like the movie versions better.

I'm sorry to hear that about the Virgin Suicides. I had it on my to be read list, but watched the movie and was so bored with it. It was just weird. That, coupled with your description, will probably keep me from reading it.

  • I just started Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet last night. I fell asleep 15 pages in so I can't really say how I liked it.

Buuuuttttt..... since I finally finished The Book Thief we can talk in a different post about that if you want Kasi! (Just incase of spoilers) But I will say I really liked it.

  • I'm between books right now, so I'm reading Parenting books on toddlers (Girlfriend's Guide to Toddlers) and my Canon T2i for Dummies book.  My next book club book is The Red Tent.

This is the book I picked for my book club in August.  Let me know how you like it...if it's horrible, I may switch it out. :)

I read it on the train to and from Chicago in March. I liked it, but I wasn't addicted to it. I think I gave it 3.5 stars out of 5. The ending was pretty predictable.

This is typical ... they are hard to get into at first. #6 took me 3 tries before I finally read and loved it. You will never want to say goodbye to these characters!!!

  • Heather I will keep you posted!

Jo - What did I tell you? So good isn't it?! My mom started it forever ago (she is a slow reader) but when she got sick she hasn't had any strength to hold up a book so I just hooked her up on her iPad with the Kindle app so she can access all my books. I'm hoping that prompts her to get into it a bit farther

Normally I would give up after 100 pages, but knowing how much you and Paige love it, I trudged through. I'm glad I did.

  • I'm reading Unbroken on my kindle app on my iPhone inbetween things at work, it's a bio about a WWII airman in the Pacific, it is an amazing story.  It really gets into the day to day life and the emotions of the war, I've really never read anything like it when it comes to WWII bio's.  If you're at all interested in this kind of stuff I really recommend this book, I'm only a quarter done and I'm hooked.

I'm listening to the Drawing of Three by Stephen King, it's decent.

I'm in the midst of a Harry Potter, I'm on the order of the Phoenix.

I watched the movie last night.  The movie was boring but not nearly as hard to watch as it is to read/listen to the book.

Funny you should mention Unbroken.  My coworker was telling me about this guy the other day and said he would be at her church as a guest speaker this week.  I was intrigued and when she said there was a book I was all over it and have it in my to-read list.  It sounds so interesting!  She said she watched the video of his appearance at her church and she said he was such a likable guy and a cute old man.

  • I just started a Johanna Lindsey novel I can't even remmber the name of it but I am only a chapter or so in. I finished Sizzling Sixteen today. That was a quick read but Janet Evanovich's are.

I have a couple of books on my list to look for next week when I go to the library including The Book Thief as much as a few people have mentioned this one lately I'm willing to try it.

  • I just read Hunger Games today. Yeah...the whole thing! It reminded me of a spin on Lord of the Flies a little. I just started the second book in the series. It was a little hard to get into, but now I don't want to stop til I've finished all three.

I felt that way too, Kasi. I really liked it and am excited for the movie, but I think that I had such high expectations going in to it that it would have been very hard to live up to the hype.

A movie?!  That will be fun to see.  Yea, I think the hype may have thrown me off some because I was expecting too much.  Sometimes I felt like the story dragged.  I am sort of feeling like that about Divergent which is another popular book right now.
