Too close to half to replace shoes?

I'm really feeling that my running shoes are wearing out.  I haven't kept track of my exact mileage on them, but I'd estimate around 400 miles.  I'd replace them now, but I'm running my first half marathon in two weeks.  Should I just wait until after the half and push through the extra aches and pains for now?

Re: Too close to half to replace shoes?

  • If it's just a new pair of the same shoes you're wearing now, I think you're fine.  If you're going to go for a different style altogether, I would wait.

  • Agreed.  I find my trusty Mizunos require no break-in period.  But I'd be nervous to run in a new-to-me style!
  • I replaced mine a week before my half - and only got about 18 miles on them before the half. Aside from a few black and blue toe nails, I was fine and felt great.
  • I agree with pp's.  If it's a new pair of the same shoe, go for it.  If it's a different shoe, I would wait.

  • I think you're fine to replace them. You have two weeks to get runs in.
