I had to take today off from work because we're getting windows delivered and they called to say they'll be delivered between 10 and 2. I hate taking time out of work because it means leaving lesson plans that can be followed by a sub, but knowing a few days ahead of time makes it easier to get everything ready. At my school our paraprofessionals (aides) are typically the ones who sub for us; we don't have outside subs that we call in. So, I spent a few minutes yesterday going over the plans and everything with my para and we both felt good about it because she's in my room all the time and knows exactly what the kids are working on. Well, I checked my work email this morning and saw that one of our new paras is covering for me. I've never met her and she's never met my students. Luckily, I wrote my plans in such a way that anyone could follow them, but I'm still worried about how things are going to go with someone completely new in my room. The kids aren't used to that. I emailed my para and asked if she could go over the plans with the sub and to email me if there's any problems. I hate that even when I call out sick I end up sitting at my computer, checking my email, and worrying about what's going on in my classroom.
