So Dutch doctors are known for saying 'sit it out' and 'come back next week if it persists' or stuff like that.
Yesterday I called my doctor for some bump on my leg. I had noticed it on Sunday as a little red spot and figured it was a mosquito bite or something like that. It had grown though and yesterday it was a real bump, red, warm and painful! First the assistant told me he wouldn't have time until Friday, but after I told her about it she made me an appointment for this morning (which is what I asked).
I was first seen by the med student, who told me that it might be possible to cut it out, but she wasn't sure if I wanted that because that would hurt. I told her 5 minutes of pain would be better than the whole day, so she went and got the doctor and he checked it out and agreed. He gave me the option of 'waiting to see if it'd disappear on it's own' or cutting it open and cleaning it out, explaining that it's impossible to really numb something like that, so that it would really hurt, but that it was a good option. I opted for taking the bump off.
He then told me to go back to the waiting room, so they could see one more waiting patient and prep their stuff to excise the bump. Not even 10 minutes later I was called back.
Yes, it hurt really bad, even after spraying it with some cooling agent. I breathed through it though and 10 minutes later I was bandaged and out the door!
Sure, having that procedure wasn't fun at all, but I'm soooo glad I actually have found a Dutch doctor who's willing to do stuff. (My old Dutch doctor who was willing to actually treat me retired about 5 years ago and I haven't been able to find a good one since. I guess this one's a keeper!!!)
