Grease stain on granite

We moved into an apt 6 months ago that has BRAND New granite counters.  About a month after we moved in, DH left some bacon grease on the counter and I didn't notice it for like a day (not sure how.. ) well now there is a 6 inch by 3 inch "stain" on the granite.  The granite is a tan color with speckles and this stain just looks like a big grey splotch... If that makes sense.

I tried the blue dawn soap and flour trick I read about online and it didn't do anything.  Am I too late? Are we going to have to pay for the granite to be "fixed"?

Re: Grease stain on granite

  • We have some granite stain remover we purchased at Home Depot. It was sort of expensive (I think it's $30 or so for the bottle) but the tile guy in the department told us that it essentially 'pushes' the stain through to the other side of the granite.

Crap. I tried to go find the bottle and it's missing, but you should be able to go to your local HD and ask for it. Since they sell those granite tiles for counters now they seem pretty knowledgable about it.

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks! I'll try to find it.  Do you think Lowes would have it as well?  Lowes is close, Home Depot not so much :(  But I can always order it online.

$30 is cheaper than replacing granite :D

  • Has it been sealed properly yet?  You should check with your landlord.  If not, do it yourself to save yourself worries.
  • After you get the stain out, obviously.
