Cleaning stainless steel?

We just got our first stainless steel appliance (yay!) and moved into a house with a stainless steel sink... what should I used to clean them?  I've been using vinegar to clean pretty much everything else, but I haven't seen anything that specifically says vinegar is safe/unsafe for stainless...or how well it works.

TIA!

Re: Cleaning stainless steel?

  • Everyone I know has a different answer to this but the only thing that has ever worked for me is Weimann's wipes or spray. Keeps everything looking like new.
  • Vinegar is safe and effective for spot cleaning stainless if you dilute it with water.  I also add dish soap.

For scouring sink buildup, vinegar won't be enough.  If you want to stick with natural cleaners, make a paste out of baking soda, let it sit for a few minutes, and then scrub it with a sponge.

If your appliance has a visible grain, scrub with the grain to avoid scratch marks.

  • Bar Keeper's Friend is amazing at cleaning stainless sinks. I always keep some on hand!

I just bought the Weiman's spray for our stainless appliances but I haven't used it yet. My mom uses olive oil on her stainless fridge and it's great at cleaning without leaving streaks - just make sure to wipe with the grain of your appliances.

  • If you need something stronger than barkeeper friend use quickleen-s stainless steel cleaner for pots and pans that have stains and burn marks.

I use the ultimate40 Aerosol for polishing stainless steel appliances
