Ruby failed her newborn hearing screen several times, so we had to go back for a re-screen at Children's today. After multiple tries, she still failed. The audiologist ran several other tests and at this point, there's no fluid or wax in the ear and it appears there's something fundamentally wrong with her ability to hear on that side. She said it's unclear whether it's structural or sensorineural and that she couldn't rule anything out at this point. Ruby's been referred to an ENT and she has an appointment next month, so hopefully we'll know more then.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying that whatever it is is easily correctable (or, better yet, it turns out to be nothing at all).
In the realm of all the things that can go wrong, we're thankful this seems pretty minor, but it's still scary to think that there may be something that causes difficulties for our child.
If you have T&Ps to spare, we'd appreciate it.
