Best vacuum for hardwood floors?

We recently had hardwood floors installed in our home. Can you recommend your favorite vacuum (or other product) for cleaning hardwood floors?

Re: Best vacuum for hardwood floors?

  • The LG Kompressor is awesome on them.

  • I don't know about a vacuum....we've been holding off buying a better one, hoping we'll get one off our registry. Our whole house is nothing but hardwood floors and it's hard keeping it clean. One thing that is very useful though is a swiffer sweeper with the dry pads if you've got pets. The hair sticks to it very well! I couldn't live without it! I usually swiffer sweeper, then I sweep with a broom, then mop. It's a long process. If I just swept right off the bat though, the cathair would just fly everywhere instead of getting picked up. But if I used nothing but the swiffer sweeper dry pads, they'd get used up in no time with all the dirt that builds up on them. So I go around the corners and edges and get all the hair clumps that I see with the swiffer first then do everything else.

  • Most of my home is tile, one bathroom is vinyl , 2 bedrooms are carpet and one bedroom is hardwood.  We are switching the house to the same floor as the one bedroom but its going slow hoping to get all the bedrooms done this year.

We have this vacuum and love it.  I love that it switches easy from hard floors to carpet or area rugs.

  • I think canister vacs are best for hard floors. We only have 1 carpeted room in our house, so we have a lot of hard floor to clean! We currently have a Miele and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. It has great suction, is quiet, and is super light weight and easy to move around the entire house. Before this we had a Shark canister vac and it worked great as well. Not as nice as the Miele, but much cheaper too! :)
  • I have a Miele canister vac as well and absolutely love it.

Whatever you do, make sure you do not use a floor attachment with spinning brushes (also called beater bars.) They are only meant for carpet and rugs and can damage wood flooring.
