Cheap AI Wanted- No Destination Preference

DH and I want to take a trip in mid-May. We'd like an AI but don't have a preference on where.  Our only concern is price. We'd like to keep it under $2k including air fare. Can this be done? Suggestions please :)

We are both vacation booking virgins for the most part. We've traveled lots but only booked one vacation completely on our own before (and it was a cruise so that's pretty beginner level). We've never traveled out of the US and booked it on our own before... Any help is appreciated. :)

TIA!

ETA- forgot a word

Re: Cheap AI Wanted- No Destination Preference

  • The cheapest AIs I've ever seen are in the Dominican Republic.

We booked out budget DR AI through www.applevacations.com

We stayed at Natura Park Eco-Resort and Spa and had a fantastic time.

Where do you live?  It can probably be done but we'd need to know where you live to suggest the cheapest destination/air packages.

We live in Texas. Austin would be the most convenient place to fly out, but we could do Dallas or Houston, if necessary. :)

To the other responders- thanks for the other suggestions. I will check them out.

  • You can also try www.beachdestinations.com.  I have booked many trips through them and have never had a problem.  Would definitely use them again.

  • Look at some options in Mexico -- the flights will be cheap because of your destination. And, a lot of the Mexican resorts are cutting prices since they're having a hard time attracting tourists.

  • I agree with the Mexico recommendation. Prices are really low right now. Direct flights will almost always be cheapest, too, plus they are significantly shorter on travel time. The only caveat is that you need a passport.

We've got that covered! :) We've traveled internationally before but never booked it on our own. I feel intimidated by it, but I will check out all the links you ladies mentioned. Thanks!
