Re: Bored? NYE Poll!

  • What are you doing for New Year's?

Probably driving up to State College and celebrating with some friends - it will be a small, low-key thing, more like board games than partying (fine by me!).

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with?

No clue - I was thinking about picking some up to bring, which is why I asked the question :)

Do you watch the ball drop on TV?

Usually, even if we're at a party someone turns it on just before midnight and we do the countdown.

    Any funny/entertaining NYE stories?

The first NYE after I moved to Texas, I was only 13 and went to a 'party' with my mom and some of her friends.  We were watching the live Times Square coverage, and when the ball dropped we all went outside and banged pots and pans (like we used to do when we lived in DE).  When we came back in, we realized it was only 11:00 since we were in a new time zone.  I never figured out why the other people at the party, who'd lived in Texas all their lives, made the mistake.

  • What are you doing for New Year's? dinner with DH and friends then prob back to the house to relax! We dont do NYE big its for those people who need a reason to act a fool!

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with? Blanc De Blance from Swedish Hill Winery its in Lake Placid NY where we got engaged!

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? ahhhhh no I watch the orange drop in Florida

  • What are you doing for New Year's?  My bridesman/co-worker is coming to our house with his on/off girlfriend.  I'm doing appetizers and cocktails, then we have late (9:00!) reservations at a local steakhouse.  We'll see how we feel after dinner, and will either hit up a local bar, or just come back to our house.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with?  H got me a bottle of Veuve Clicquot yellow label for Christmas, so we might pop that...

Do you watch the ball drop on TV?  Usually, if I'm home.  I am amused by Andy Cohen from Bravo, so I might try to convince H to watch that NYE show.

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories?  Not really entertaining, but endearing.  My first NYE with H, three years ago.  We'd only been dating about 6 weeks, and he'd planned his Christmas trip to PA before we met.  His flight back was on NYE and there was only time for a quick shower after he got in.  My friends were having a party in the Bay Area, and he manned up and came with me, even though he was exhausted.  Luckily we slept over, and he was able to go to sleep just after midnight.

  • mushE--the Veuve is one of our fave champagnes:)

what will i be doing?--going to Providence RI to celebrate with my best friend and her brand-new fiance! aside from dinner out, i have no idea what our plans are.

brand of champagne: got a few bottles of moet--one for friday and one for saturday.

do i watch the ball drop--if i am where there is a tv

entertaining NYE story: in 9 years of being with gerren, we have spent ONE NYE together, as he always works.  if not that night, then the next morning at about 6 am, so he is in bed at midnight.  this year is no different.  so sad :(  but hopefully we will celebrate a little when i get back from RI on saturday.

  • What are you doing for New Year's?  Undecided.  My sister invited us over, but we have a wedding on 1/1 and nowhere to go with the dog.  If we go anywhere, we usually make the decision last minute.  Otherwise, I pass out on the couch while DH watches tv.  Yup, we're lame.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with?  Probably none :-(  The jelly bean didn't really care for the champagne I had on our HM in Antigua.

Do you watch the ball drop on TV?  If I can stay awake?  Used to love *** Clark's Rockin NYE show, but it's so depressing since he had his stroke.

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories?  First NYE K & I were together, we were having family over for dinner the next day, so we were feverishly painting the foyer on NYE.  We finished painting at 11:30 pm, watched the ball drop, and both of us passed out like the dead.

  • Shauni - ooh, I love Moet, too.  I used to work for a wine importer, so I got to try all kinds of awesome champagnes that we were selling.  Now that I'm out of that world, though, my taste has been drifting more towards sparking wine.  I really love J, but always forget about it until close to NYE, when it's all sold out.

  • Yeah Diick Clark is pretty depressing to watch now.

Nooo, that's so sad.  My favorite wine product is champagne, and we're TTC right now.  We've got a trip to Paris planned around Memorial Day, and I made H promise that we can take a day trip to the Champagne region, and he'll have to taste extra for me if I'm PG and not at a place in the pregnancy when I can have a little.

  • Come on, let's liven it up a bit!

What are you doing for New Year's? Going to our friends house.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with? IDK, we still do the cheaper 5.99 brand that you would drink when  under 21.. I hate champagne so I don't like to spend the money on a good one.

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? yes

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories?  (Here is the shortend version) NYE going into 2008, our friend (male) meet a girl at the bar we were at. Fast forward end of the night. We all drive home together. He gets a text from the girl to go meet her at her hotel room. He gets there and said girl was not actually a girl..

  • What are you doing for New Year's? - going to visit DH's aunt, uncle and cousin in Philly!

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with? - DH and I love Cristalino, the brand we served at our wedding!

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? - there have only been two years in my memory that I did not watch the ball drop.  two years ago I was at a NYE party where they did not have any tvs on.  last year, DH and I were LAMEEEE and fell asleep!

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories? - for the year 2000 / millenium, I was 14.  My parents made reservations at a hotel on cape cod with an indoor pool.  I started to feel like I was coming down with something during the day.  By 10:00PM I had a raging fever and could barely even move.  I layed there frozen in the hotel bed watching the New Years celebrations around the world on t.v. until it eventually got to be midnight here.  I think I fell asleep at 12:00:01.

another year, when DH and I were still dating and in school, he came from New York to visit me when I was still living at home.  My parents and sister went down the Cape with some friends for New Years Eve and left us alone in the house.  We told my parents we were going to a party at my friend's house so it wouldn't be so awkward for them to leave us alone.  But we ended up just staying at my house, ordering take out, watching the Twilight Zone marathon on t.v. and getting shitfaced together lol.  It was the single best New Years I have ever had.

  • What are you doing for New Year's? I'm hoping to last until midnight, will need major caffeine to stay up so H would be proud. Maybe we'll rent some video games and play those for a while.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with? Martinelli's sparkling cider.

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? If I can manage to keep my eyelids peeled open, then yes.

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories? A few years back, I went to this bar w/ a friend of mine for NYE. One of my cousins was working at this bar so she made sure we had plenty of drinks around (and I think she told the bartender to make them strong). I had one too many drinks and didn't realize this until I sat in my friends car (which happened to be parked in front of the bar) and tossed cookies - tossed them onto the sidewalk (thank goodness). Friend drove me to her apartment and I passed out on the couch.

  • What are you doing for New Year's? We haven't decided yet, it's usually last minute.  BM will probably have a house party

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with? Cheap, sweet shiit.  Martin&Rossi Asti Spumante.  Love it and you can't beat $8/bottle

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? If we're at a place w/ a TV, yes.  The last few years, we do the hotel package w/ the multiple dance rooms/open bar/big bash.

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories?  The first year we did the Hyatt bash, DH got hella sick.  I'm talking, the poor man drinks but 3 times/year, was mixing wine, beer and liquor, and by the time we got him to our room (which we were sharing w/ two girls) he puked all over the floor, himself and the bedspread.  Red wine does NOT come out of hotel floors or bedding.  We were shiitting bricks, thinking we'd have to pay some huge damage deposit.  Plus the room stunk to holy hell.  Thankfully, all was well, the hotel never charged us extra and were really understanding about it.  We tease DH relentlessly and I'm not sure if he's ever been drunk since that night.

  • We like cheap & sweet, so maybe we'll check out Martin and Asti.  We've found that usually we can stomach champagne if it has strawberries or Chambord (sp?) in it.

But it doesn't matter for this NYE, because we decided to cancel our plans and stay home because Jeff isn't feeling up to it.  Luckily there was no charge for the hotel room we had reserved.

Oh, I love J.  We went to the bubble room (engagement gift) and it was the best experiance ever.  I also love going to Chandon and Mumm.  I have the hookup for wine tasting in the Napa Valley since I know someone in the industry.  Oh, I also love Domaine Carneros, what can I say, I am a bubble girl.

  • What are you doing for New Year's? We have three options, my dad is having something at his house, one of our friends is having something at his house, and another friend is having a bomb fire. I think we will probably go to the bomb fire, I think the weather will be nice outside.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with? I always toast with a Spumante. Its almost like a sparkling reisling, but I will only be drinking if Aunt Flow pays me a visit before new years, otherwise I might be drinking soda.

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? If we are inside, we always do.

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories? Not really a funny story, but I love it. Me and H started dating in HS 8 years ago and even though we broke up and dated other people, (years ago) somehow it worked out where we were together every new years eve.

Isn't it so good with Chambord in it?  That's it...I'm going to BevMo to stock up!

  • What are you doing for New Year's?

Going to Plum island off of Massachusetts with a bunch of friends.  We have our friend's whole inn to ourselves. Can't bloody wait.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with?

Veuve Clicquot all the way! It's tradition for us to drink it whenever we get together with our friends.  They got us a 6L bottle for our wedding.  But I must say Brew - I agree with you.  I LOVE Martin and Rossi.  If it was just me drinking, I'd probably do that.

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? Like jedaniel, I will if I'm inside.

    Any funny/entertaining NYE stories?

One year my BIL screwed up the flaming shots that everyone was doing.  He somehow managed to spill the alcohol all down his face and throat.  It all lit up in a flaming blaze.  Instead of turning on the faucet right next to him in the kitchen, he freaked out and took off running through the house.  Chris had to run after him, catch him and put the fire out with a kitchen towel.  We spent the night in the ER.   He was very lucky.  It was very painful at the time but he never got a single scar or blemish from it.

Good lord, that's terrifying!  I've always been too chicken to take a flaming shot.

  • Um, debdeb, I think we need a GTG.  These are some of my favorite places.  And I like wine hookups.  Stick out tongue

When I lived in Santa Rosa, I was a wine club member at J, and my wine tasting buddy and I would go tasting almost every weekend, and always end at J (he was also a member).  Their style of always doing food & wine pairing is awesome, and it was such a good deal because we went all the time, and tasted for free.

  • What are you doing for New Year's?

Headed to our friend's house - lots of alcohol, games and fun.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with?

I don't know what he'll have on hand, but if it were up to me - Verdi.  It's a pretty cheap, but very good sparkling wine that was served at our wedding.  I love champagne.  My friend went to France in Oct and visited Champagne; I love to go one day.

Do you watch the ball drop on TV?

    Yep.

  • What are you doing for New Year's? We are having my brother, SIL, and niece over as well as a friend of ours. We will be watching the Red Wings beat the Islanders, then playing some games and eating rotisserie steak.

What brand of champagne (if any) will you be toasting with? None. We will be having an alcohol-free celebration.

Do you watch the ball drop on TV? If we remember to turn it on. I usually only watch the last couple of minutes and the ball dropping. I have my own stuff going on, I don't have to watch other people partying.

Any funny/entertaining NYE stories? Our first NYE together, I got sick so we had to skip the party we were going to. I picked DH (BF at the time) up from work, got a ticket for expired tags, then we went home and were listening to music and playing Trivial Pursuit. I decided it must be close to midnight so we should switch to the ball drop. We switched it on, and realized that it was quarter after 12 and we had missed it. So we had our New Year's kiss at 12:15am.
