Would you do it? Poll

H and I are going to Oz to dive on the Great Barrier Reef for a week and have an extra day. I am terrified of the thought of jumping out of an airplane but H thinks it would be awesome since he's a free faller.

Part of me says, why the hell not it could be a once in a lifetime thing to do. The other part says why on earth would you jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

[Poll]

**please note we have the time to be able to do this without risking decompression sickness.

Re: Would you do it? Poll

  • Nope. I am way too much of a pansy to be able to do that without passing out in fear. LOL.

  • I'm afraid of heights, and that definitely would scare the crap out of me.  But if you are up for it, then I would say go for it.  Its just not for me.

  • My mom and her twin went skydiving for their 50th birthday even though both are very scared of heights. They said while it was terrifying they were happy they went because it is, as you said,  a once in a lifetime opportunity for most!

...if you have the chance, go for it!

  • I am scared of heights, and will probably do this one day!

    I changed my name
  • I would only jump out of an aircraft if the Marine Corps asked me to. It scares me as a civilian, and doesn't as a theoretical future Marine. I'm not sure why. I'm a loon.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • Yes!! :)

I also would love to ride in a fighter jet, blue angel style.

I had a dream that DH was on R&R and took me and the baby on one. He flies UAVs, I guess my subconscious took over from there...  lol

  • Skydiving is on my bucket list, but H always says the same thing your other half does - plus he wraps it in all that "I'm a pilot" BS.

  • I WILL skydive one day!  I would totally do it, but I'm a thrillseeker.  I've done this: http://kicentral.com/attractions/skyflyer.php so many times I don't even get a rush anymore.
  • I'm super jealous my husband gets to jump out of planes and get paid for it. Plus he's jumping out of a chinook today and I'm even jealous of that. So I would totally do it since sky diving tops it all!

You know a UAV is an unmanned plane, correct? I'm not disputing that he flies on, just that there's no reason to worry about getting on one.

  • I would! I think it would be so fun! I'm sure you'd have to gently shove me out of them plane, but it's definitely a once in a lifetime event!

Haha this! My brother helps "fly" them too except he sits at a fancy computer in a trailer type thing lol.

  • I was a frequent skydiver and scuba diver before I enlisted. I loved it and will one day drag my husband onto a Cessna so I can push him out...lovingly, of course.

Of course I know that!! Lol. Maybe I worded it funny?

It was in my DREAM that he was flying us around in a fighter jet. But it was just a dream... I know that would never actually happen! I just thought it was funny, especially since he took the baby for a ride too.

  • DO IT!!! I can't speak for anyone else but the two times I've done it, free falling was the best feeling in the entire world.  Take the best experience you've ever had, multiply it by a kajillion times and that's the best way I can describe it.

  • I took H for is birthday last year...

It was awesome. I'm a bit of a chicken sh!t when it comes to that too. I'm OK with heights, but the whole jumping with nothing but a parachute and some dude strapped to your back is a little nerve racking. But H was with me and it was awesome. He loved it. Best birthday present I've ever gotten him.

     See, it's fun: image

  • Don't go tandem.

If you go tandem, they normally take you up higher since you're attached to someone experienced.  If you go solo, they drop you from a lower height (3-4k feet), on a static line.

Also, with tandem diving, there's that tuck and roll out of the plane.  Solo, I had hang from the wing until I was given the thumbs up to fall away.  Totally awesome.

  • No I wouldn't do it but I would never voluntarily throw myself out of a plane.

Your trip sounds like it's going to be amazing though, have fun!
