when do you do more than cereal?  DH took her to her last appointment and all he told me was to start cereal.

Re: BWLO: solids follow up

  • I started Alex on cereal around 5ish months, by 6ish months We were introducing veg into the cereal mix.
  • At our 4 month appt my peed told me to start cereal and veggies but advised to hold off on fruits until about 6 months.  (I've heard that people say to do this because once you start fruits they won't like the veggies.  But then I also read somewhere that isn't something you have to worry about, that our brains are wired to like sweets better, so it doesn't matter what order you introduce them in.)  I don't know if Marshall's weight/how much formula he was taking had anything to do with that.  Right now Marshall is weighs about 20 lbs and is drinking 32 oz of formula a day and my peed didn't want him taking any more formula than that, so I think he had me start cereal and veggies right away as a way to help keep Marshall full.

  • Zac lasted on cereal for ohhhhh about a day. LOL.

He refused to eat it by itself. Day 2 we mixed it with a simple veggie and he was fine.

Read your kid. She'll tell you. :)

I thought maybe we had to wait but I will try mixing it she doesn't really like the plain rice cereal.

  • Mads started cereal at 4 months, veggies around 5 & then fruits around 6.  Our dr said that it was okay to experiment with it all between 4-6 months since at that point her primary foodsource was still breastmilk, as long as we spaced new foods out a few days apart to check for allergies.
  • I believe at 6 months we started Veggies then fruit. Just go through the different cereals then start on veggies/fruit. 6 months is about average to start on baby food.

Marshall also didn't like the plain rice cereal, but once we got the kind with the apples in it he was all over it!  Just another option for you to try!
