Re: Day 16

  • semi-realistic dream house: cape house in beach town with farmer's porch. 3 or 4 BR, 2.5 BA, finished basement.  I would like a nice yard, and a 3 season room.  I would love an updated kitchen with stone counters and maple cabinets.  I would like the 1st floor to be "open concept."

master bedroom would have walk-in closet and bathroom with large jetted tub and stand-up shower.

fireplace in living room, and wood stove in basement.

  • I loveloveLOVE Victorian style houses. More specifically Victorian on the outside, but more modern on the inside because Vic. houses tend to have small rooms.

    This house makes me drool:

Even the floor plan is pretty much perfect. The only thing I'd change would be the kitchen layout - it looks a little small.

    2012 Book Count: 16
  • Two story house with 4-5 bedrooms (not tiny ones either). Master suite with large bathroom and walk in closet, office as one bedroom if its a 5 bedroom house. finished basement with "man room" projector tv, bar, couches, kitchen etc. Two or three car garage. Flat back yard with large patio, room for a large garden. Kitchen would be an open 1st plan, concrete countertops, gas cooktop with large burners (4 with space or 6) double oven, island area and plenty of storage. Large pantry and space for a formal or large dining room (we have a very large family). Fireplace is a must.

  • I would love to build a big log cabin up north around the Dells. I have my heart set on building one by the time I am 40.

  • As corny as it sounds - our house is my dream house. It's the house I've always wanted to own.

Now - if our house was fully updated with a wide open floor plan on the first floor....a fireplace with a mantle in the den, a master bathroom, skylights and a 2 car garage - then, everything would be absolutely perfect.

leslie and i have the same dream house. the only thing that i might do differently is add some additional stone accents besides just the fire place. i would also want a really big, open kitchen with a large island where i could roll out lots of doughs and such.

This is a pretty good picture of my dream house. I want alot of windows, a porch and alot of lawn to run around on. I want enough rooms to have one for each kid, a guest room and maybe an office so 4-5 bedrooms should do it and 2.5 baths should be enough, I would love a few fireplaces, Master bedroom would have a walk in closet (or two?), a huge bathroom with a huge tub and french doors out to a balcony.

    Kitchen, maybe something like this:

    image

With big windows and alot of room, but with alot more counterspace, a double oven (a matching kitchen aid mixer), and a big pantry.

It would be cool to have a music room with good acustics, with a few nice instruments in there like a piano and some guitars. H would love a  big theater room with cushy seats and a big popcorn maker (maybe a bar?)! And a pool that takes care of itself and a huge patio with an outside kitchen/grill area. While I'm being rediculous, I would love a self serve starbucks (since I worked there, I'd know how to work it- I'm not hiring anyone to work in my house...). Ok maybe just a big espresso machine and lots of flavor choices... and a frapp machine... with a stocked pastry case...

  • Totally custom.  Kitchen would be cherry cabinetry with dark granite, large center island with cooktop, Sub-Zero fridge, professional range.  Living room, not open to kitchen (I don't like it--sometimes I want to get away from things in my kitchen)  fireplace, homey cozy.  5 bedrooms, I think.  Sun room or enclosed porch for the kitties, with cushions and a huge kitty tower.  In the basement, small theater room with popcorn machine.  Small wine cellar with cooler for champagne.  In the backyard, a brick fire pit with rotisserie attachment--we roastin a pig!
  • The exterior of memily's house is very similar to what I would want. Also, I don't want a huge house unless I can afford to pay someone to clean it.

4 or 5BD, 3BA. Large, open concept downstairs with a double sided fireplace from the kitchen to the dining area. Large kitchen with a butler's pantry, tons of cherry cabinets, black marble countertops, double ovens, french door refirgerator.

Large master with his and hers walk-in closets, large master bath with his and her sinks, jetted tub, stand up double shower.

3 car garage and a separate storage unit in the backyard. Large yard with plenty of room for a swing set and sandbox.
  • I really love this house:

Not too big, or designer. Just a bit of classic with a really nice interior.

My dream house is similar to Memily's. We want a big wrap-around porch that we can sit on (and I want a porch swing), a few acres of land, lots of windows and lots of room. There's a house near where we live that's an old schoolhouse that looks roughly like this, and it's for sale, for way more than we could afford. We purposefully drive alternate routes so we don't have to drive by it with its For Sale sign taunting us, because it makes us sad.

  • i really like the look of big old victorian houses, unfortunately (at least in our area) they are often in towns with small lots and busy streets. i would prefer a more secluded, private property with lots of acreage and victorians arent often in that setting.

My grandma's house, where we got married- too bad I can't find a picture of the front, though. With a little tweaking, it's my ideal house: it's old but in good condition, the rooms are pretty roomy, there aren't a lot of windows, but it's still pretty light. Since it's all field stone from the surrounding land, the window sills are ridiculously deep, which is just cool, you never see that. The main house is 4 rooms downstairs and 4 rooms upstairs, and has 2 staircases and a nice big attic, so it's definitely big enough. I want to knock out the kitchen (the red-ish wing) and make a decent kitchen with lots of counterspace and room to work and move around, and with a nice eating and/or sitting area. I'll make that new addition 2 stories and the master bedroom with a fancy bathroom and big closets will be above the kitchen. There's a small terrace against the stone part of the house on the side in the picture, and on the other side of the current kitchen is a fenced-in patio/garden that I'll keep but improve. I'll also need to add a porch of some sort, or maybe I'll just put a screened-in gazebo near the house. I'd also like to unblock the fireplaces, there are 8 but only 1 works.

I also love the town this house is in. It's in the country so it's nice and quiet but there's a lot going on, and it's not far from anything. I could work in a lab at UConn and have an easy commute.

  • I can't PIP at work but my realistic dream house that I'm hoping to live in by 2012 at the latestWink would have cathedral ceilings, sky lights, a modern kitchen, 3-4 bedrooms, a den and a big yard with possibly a water view

K and I are currently drooling over a home that looks like this in our neighborhood which keeps getting reduced.  It's currently $329 K and we might consider it if it drops below  $300,000.  It's a little more than we wanted to spend but here's a link if you'd like a peek:
