Are you all sure that it wouldn't be lame to buy a peacoat that looks just like the Navy-issued peacoat my husband wears?

And for the record, it can get pretty cold and windy here!

Not at all, it's a pretty typical style.. If you're worried about it you can always get it in grey or something!

LOL! Ok, I'm sure it's not always nice, but until you walk across a campus just a couple blocks away from Lake Michigan when the wind chill is -10, you don't know what cold and windy means! ;)

Pretty much this.  While we've had some really nice days lately, the high was 16 (without windchill) on Thanksgiving.  I can't imagine thinking SC was cold, but I guess it depends on what you're used to.

I'm sure my idea of cold is very different than yours lol! I grew up in Virginia Beach. I went to Great Lakes for H's boot camp graduation in January and saw more snow in 3 days than I had seen my entire life. Still, having grown up in a generally warm area, I am very sensitive to the cold!

LOL, I understand that.  It was -24 here last Christmas and I was used to NC weather... I was sooo not ready for that.

My peacoat looks a lot like H's navy issued one except that it's cut a little more feminine and has this weird belt thing around the waist that I really don't know what to do with so half the time I shove it in my pocket. I'm not at all fashion-oriented so I don't know what to do with weird features on clothes....however I do like the jacket! It's made by Ann Klein and I got it on sale at a Macy's.

  • I have an Old Navy pea coat, (It has the double buttons down the front) and DH's Grandparents made fun of me the whole time they were here. Apparently an Air Force wife shouldn't be wearing "Navy" clothing. But whatever. To me it looks classy and professional, and that is all I wanted out of my winter coat.

ETA: This is the coat I have, only in Black, and I love every minute I wear it.

Delias was my favorite in high school!  That and PacSun are all I wore.  I still like PacSun and I'm 27.  ::blushyface::

  • Navy issued peacoats are only the warmest thing EVAH! And they are an iconic style that transcends the military world and is now mainstream. It would be like saying one shouldn't wear jeans because that's for minors or buffalo plaid being only for lumberjacks.

And I don't wear hats usually because they jack with my hair. So my coats need to be cover my ass because it gets cold and have a hood so I don't completely squish my curls.

I bought my coat at wallyworld. But it's not a peacoat. It has toggles.

MH and I have the same ski jackets. His is neon green, mine is white. I really don't care what people think about us having the same coat. *shrug*

MH and I have the gender-specific versions of the Squall jackets from Land's End. Wet, cold, and snowy in England. Mine is pink, his is blue. It works.

Old Navy had some cute coats on sale, and I got my grey pea coat from NY & Co. Love it. For that matter, Land's End has some cute coats, and they're quite warm.

    Taking BBG's suggestion...

    http://store.alloy.com/item.do?categoryID=2418&itemID=50787&sizeFilter=&colorFilter=&brandFilter=

I would rather get a hat than a hood, but I live in Southern Cal.

This meets your criteria. And there's free shipping.

I think the buttons look weird. 3 on one side, 4 on the other, and the 4th one isn't the same distance from the others. Maybe I'm just OCD.

I think that is why I don't like it too! I like #1 out of your two choices.

I have been wearing my dad's peacoat since 7th grade, it's flippin 47 years old now, still in great shape and REALLY warm...have to give it up this year now that I know I'm not suppose to be wearing it to begin with and with hubby now in the Navy = (

I like #2 better of the options you gave.. but I'm not crazy about it.

I looked through their coats and I thought this one was cute! A little bit more feminine, so you can dress it up!

ok I take back my vote for #1. I LOVE this one *grabs old coat and heads to delias*
