Help! What do I do?

I think I know what I need to do but I just want some verficiation that I am not jumping the gun.  I can't think straight.

I left to go to Walmart this afternoon and let my dogs out.  My little dog had another seizure (after having two last night) and my other dog attacked her during the seizure.  She has bits marks all over her and is bleeding.

I have my little dog isolated from the other dogs in the bathroom and she is moaning.  Like, REALLY loud.  Typically a few hours after she has a seizure, she is out of it and is in pain.  But this time it's a tad different.

Ugh.  I know her time is near.  I am just not sure how near.  I called my vet but she is out of town and will not be back until tomorrow.  The receptionist gave me a number to another vet the recommend which is also a 24 hour vet.

I am thinking I am going to have to make the decision to put her down tonight.  But what should I do?  Should I give her a few hours to see if she bounces back or should I do it now?  What would you do?

Sorry for asking for advice that should be simple.  I can't get my H or my mom on the phone.  I feel like I can't think straight listening to her moan.

  • I'm so sorry. :( I think I would go ahead and make the call to the 24 hour vet. I lie... I'd have Rob do it. But it sounds like she'd be better off, sadly.

    *hug*

  • Sadly, I think her time has come :(  I know it's a very difficult thing to do but it sounds as though she has been through a lot and would be better off in doggy heaven.  Good luck....  I'll be thinking about you.

  • Have her evaluated by the other vet and be open to the advice they give. If they say it's time, then it probably is time. I'm sorry!
  • Oh no, I'm so sorry :( I would also call the other vet and have her evaluated. If there is nothing they can do to ease her pain it may be time to let her go. Again, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this and your pup is in pain. (((hugs)))
  • I agree with everyone - take her to the other vet and see what they say. From your post, it sounds to me like it's probably time, but see what the vet says. I'm so sorry you have to make this decision. Poor puppy. :'(

  • Aw, I am so so sorry...I would call the vet.  I am thinking of you!
  • From the sounds of it, she is in a lot of pain and that is no way to have to live.  Take her to the vet and see what they say, but remember that if you decide to let her go, you are doing a compassionate thing for her.  I am so sorry, Kathy!
  • I am so sorry you have to deal with this....just send some thoughts and support during this rough time. Let us know how things go and if you need anything!

  • I'm very sorry that your doggy is in pain.  Like everyone said, call the vet and let them evaluate her and advise you on your options.

If it is her time, you are doing the right thing letting her go to sleep in peace.

  • Whew, ok things have calmed down a bit.  By the time my H got home from work my doggie had relaxed.  She is now hanging out in our kitchen and she had a good dinner.  She is not in her usual high spirits but she is stable.....for now.  I am hoping to make it until tomorrow morning so we can visit our regular vet.  The emergency vet is an hour away and my dog FREAKS out in the car.  So fingers crossed she does ok through the night.  Thank goodness her moaning has stopped and she even gave me a little wag of her tail once she got some food in her.

Thanks for all the advice.  It is REALLY appreciated.  I was really freaking out home alone by myself with my dog in pain like that.

I'm glad to hear she is feeling better.  I can only imagine it is tough for you worrying about her having another seizure and wanting very much for you doggie to feel better.

  • I'm so sorry Kathy, I hope your doggy feels better! Thinking of you during this hard time.

  • Sorry I'm so late on this.  Your post brought tears to my eyes.  For some reason, I'm so concerned about your dog.  Give her some lovin' & an extra treat for me!

Glad to hear she's doing better though.  That must be so hard to watch & listen to.  How's the pup doing today?

How does MrJason feel about all of this?

Did you call your regular vet yet?
