Husbands in the delivery room

Let me preface this by saying that my husband will 100% be in the room with me when I have our future children.

However, the graphic post below made me think -- where did/will you have him stand in the room? I know at the time I probably won't care about anything besides getting that baby out, but do I really need him to see my parts like that, particularly if there may be involuntary bodily functions occurring?

I knew all of this about pushing and what can happen, but never really thought about where DH would fit in. Having him up holding my hand without a front row view of the business is sounding better right now.

Re: Husbands in the delivery room

  • he stood at the top by my head most of the time, i think he helped hold a foot every so often too. he watched when the baby came out and said it was the coolest thing ever so take that for what it's worth.

there are so many things happening in that room, honestly, my DH seeing gross stuff is the least of the worries. Oh and  i think i remember at least 12 other people besides us coming in and out, residents, doctors, main doctor dude, students, nurses, etc so they get to see all the fun stuff too

I don't really care who else sees it, I'm more thinking about DH being scarred for life.

  • I honestly don't care. I originally was like, "Oh I want you up at my head!"

But to tell you the truth, pregnancy, at least mine, removes so much of your dignity and your modesty. There's really very little left to hide once birth comes around, IMO.

I was all about no one in the room except DH and I wanted him to be up by my head.  When you're in labor and 20 different people have been all up in your vagina you really don't care anymore.

  • DH was right there next to me rubbing my legs and had a full view. He also counted my stitches for me. He's a keeper.

  • Not that I ever want to birth anything after these posts....but I'm totally going to leave this up to DH, who I have no doubt will want to be up by my head. If he actually watches, I will be shocked. (however I wouldn't care).

  • true story my husband doesn't know my weight. but i have no care if he sees my lady bits all spread out at all.

  • Yeah, we both thought it'd be better if he stayed up near my head, but once they told us they could see her head, he totally wanted to see it for himself. Of course, then he got freaked out, not fully understanding what he was seeing and thinking the baby was going to be born with an abnormally small head, but that's another story! lol.

  • I was actually really worried about mr. eagles.  I did not know if he was going to be able to handle it and be properly supportive.

He blew me away with how calm he was.  Charlie's birth was a really long, uncomfortable process.  H saw more things going in and coming out of me than I ever anticipated, and he was a trooper from start to finish

  • My DH will definitely be there for our future kids.  But I think he is smart enough to stay by my head for his own sake.

He nearly passed out just from visiting my mom in the hospital.  No blood or anything and he had to sit down because he was lightheaded.

jess: no not pregnancy related at all. i couldn't actually imagine one of these while pregnant, they are that painful.

Ugh, my ex boyfriend had one in college and I know it was awful.

  • lachute, I had it flare up 3x and then had it removed and never had a problem again.  Did you ever have it removed or just drained?

  • DH swore he wanted to be up near my head the whole time (he didn't even want to cut the cord).

But, when the moment came he was right there, watching everything (and ended up cutting the cord).

  • Ok, ass cysts are freaking me out more than anything related to labor.

I think we are over DH seeing anything that will freak him out.  Five or six dates with the dildo cam, plus being present for two internals, and the mystery is gone.

the first two times, it flared up the weeks between xmas and new years and no one wanted to drain it without me seeing a doctor... of course it drained it self both times and i just cleaned it up. the third time the hospital decided to drain it for me and they pushed for me to go see someone to have it removed but i never got around to it. do you have a doctor you can recommend? i would prefer a 4th time not to happen.

  • DH insisted that he not watch the birth because he was concerned he would freak out and never want to see the girl parts again. Low and behold when the time came he was all up in there, giving play by plays and was happier than a pig in shiit when he was asked if he wanted to see the placenta.

It's insane how he changed but am really glad he saw everything and enjoyed his view.

    Wait, what?

An internal ultrasound.  In the very beginning I got those every week, since we were with a reproductive endocrinologist.  It gives you a better view than an actual on the tummy ultrasound, which wouldn't really show anything at that point.

They are not standard issue at all -- just if you are seeing a specialist for some reason.

My experience was so similar!  The first 2 times it burst and drained on its own.  The third time it flared up it was sofuckingpainful my dad was like "I can't take it, we are taking you to the hospital.

So we went to Jeff and I had it drained and then once it cleared up, removed.  THe doctor was like "I do not even know how you walked in here, there was such a massive amount of fluid in there"

She was awesome, Dr. Donna Barbot.  Last I heard she had left Jeff for Hahnemann.

it was so painful the last time but they didn't want to remove it right then and there. i was reading somewhere that they usually stop in general around the age of 25 but i don't want to push it.

on a side note there is a great picture of 19 year old lachute at the mummers after perks to kill the pain of the cyst and a jug of wine to forget i had it.

Hehe. I had one for my first KU U/S. I've also had one when I had ovarian cysts.

Basically it's a long wand, probably about 8-12 inches. They put a mini condom on it and put it in your vag. It's the same visual as a normal outside U/S.

The last thing I said before my doc put it in was, "Well, let's hope something is really in there." 10 seconds later she said, "Yep, there's something in there all right." And there was the little bugger.

LOL, it's not like a colonoscopy though. It only goes as far as your cervix.
